End It All?

Recommended Posts

Guest craigjjs

I am trying, desperately, to resolve whatever is causing terrible blurring near large airports on my high end Vista system in FSX.In the past there was a freeware application called 'End it all' that would allow you to close down all but essential processes. It worked well on Windows XP, but I can't find it online any longer and doubt that it works with Vista. Is anyone aware of any application that will allow you to turn off processes or services in Vista (apart from doing it one by one every time?ThanksCraigjjs

And here I was worried that you wanted to "end it all".Phew.A quick google search produced this:http://www.the-old-sea-dog.net/enditall.htmlhttp://home.ptd.net/~don5408/toolbox/enditall/http://forum.worldstart.com/archive/index.php/t-3604.htmlApparently, it's not free anymore and Ziff-Davis is vigorously sweeping the net clean of links to free versions of it. Sounds like you want version 1.01 and not version 2. There are other solutions out there. Maybe somebody else can chime in.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

Why not try FSAutoStart available in the AvSim library here http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=57040It's more sophisticated than EndItAll.Cheers,

did you notice any big performance boosts after using this program? If you did, what programs did you turn off?

What did you end up using?

I could have sworn Vista has a similar feature built in, where you could view running processes in much more detail than Task Manager and determine which to shut down. At least I know Vista Ultimate has it.I'll have to go look, but I'm almost positive about that.GG

I am using End it All for now. It works fine with Vista except it does not access as many processes as it did for XP. I downloaded FSAutostart and will play with it over the weekend. It seems to allow access to more services and processes than End it All.Vista does permit you to turn off some services and processes and you can, of course, turn off some from the Task Manager. What I was looking for and what End it All does is allow you to choose a number of programs/processes and turn them off with one click. Once you set it up, you just click it once each time before FSX. So all of the services and processes are there until you want to fly and then can be easily turned off.Two problems that I cannot resolve are the indexing and dwm.exe. There is no way to turn off the indexing in Vista and there seems to be no reason or rhyme that I can detect as to when it indexes. Google has an indexer that I used on my XP machine, but it would only index during periods of inactivity, Vista seems happy to index when you are already pushing the processor to the max. Dvm.exe has something to do with managing all those windows you open in Vista. The more open windows, the more memory dvm.exe gobbles up. It helps if you turn off aero, but you cannot turn off Dvm.exe for more than a few minutes until it restarts itself. I'm setting up a user account just for FSX that runs the fewest possible processes. So far, there has been little improvement in performance. Craigjjs
