August 22, 20223 yr So I'm building a PC and mainly want to play MSFS, are there any parts I should put more money into than others to optimise the pc for MSFS? These are the current parts I have: Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2 ATX AM4 Motherboard CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor Memory: 2x G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 6600 8 GB EAGLE Video Card Storage: Crucial P2 2 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Power Supply: EVGA GD (2019) 600 W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply Monitor: AOC 24G2 23.8" 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor Driver System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit If there is anything I can improve please let me know.
August 28, 20223 yr Buy a lower cost budget motherboard for under $100, and get 2 sticks of 8GB CL 18 (if it saves you enough). You can upgrade to 32GB later, it is pointless spending money on 32GB memory with that low-end of a system when you can re-allocate the money to a better CPU or GPU. That CPU and GPU is not good enough. I would recommend an Nvidia 3070 and an AMD 5800x as the minimum. There are tons of AMD 5800x's on Ebay for pretty cheap, buy used if you have to. Used CPU is ok generally speaking it is not likely to have "hidden" issues, meaning if something is wrong with it, you'll know right away. Used GPU too risky though. Hence, don't put money into CL 16 or 32GB memory when you are buying a low end CPU and GPU. It is fine if you want to spend money and have 32GB, but not when you are buying an AMD 5-3600 (that CPU is slow), as well as the slow Raden 6600. Buy an Nvidia 3070 with the money you save from the above advice, there are some good deals floating around. Otherwise, I'd even take the 3060 over the Radeon 6600. So would probably avoid AMD GPU's unless you don't mind being the odd man out and having to deal with a few issues. Yes, they work fine, but there are some headaches for sure. I have an AMD 6900xt I used for a month in MSFS, and the AMD drivers and software has some issues. Get a little heavier duty of a power supply, 800 watt minimum, 1000-1200 watt preferred for later upgrades. If you have the room for it, you can get a 43" TCL 4k TV (s43s435) from Amazon for $250 that will beat pretty much every monitor under $700 (unless you play a lot of shooters and are worried about ghosting). The Flight Sim is MUCH better on a 43" TV than a 24" monitor, 24" is tiny. You just have to put the TV a little farther back, but you get used to the larger size pretty quickly. September 8, 20223 yr I can agree with much of Alpine Scenery's sentiments although I am not au fait with the world of AMD these days. In terms of monitors I think 27" 1440p is a good compromise, I did use a 37" television but it can be awkward unless you have the right setup for it. ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.
