After landing I let ground assign me to a gate.
but most of the time it gives me a gate which is already in use. P2ATC can see traffic but not control them. But can it see planes at the gate?
Am i doing something wrong? I know I can choose a gate before and ground assigns me to it but I want ground to choose it.

You had the solution in your question.

The current version of P2A does not check for whether or not the gate is occupied, so you must choose the gate yourself.

In some SIMs, gates are occupied by both AI Traffic and "static traffic" which is not even visible to programs like P2A.

Checking for AI Traffic at gates is on the long list of things for future implementation, but is not around the corner.

The next beta will have the check for availability of gates before assignments.  It will need some testing.
