TrafficRadar.Zip Install in FSX?

Featured Replies

I wanted to ask anyone who has downloaded the Doug Dawson version of TrafficRadar.Zip for FSX, does it work?

I guess my issue with it is, I am not sure I am fully "installed" correctly, to the point I have tried almost everything I know, to make it an "Add-On" in all forms like DLL.XML etc., and still nothing.

As I look at the TrafficRadarXML code, it seems that C:fs9Traffic... is not working at all.  Sure, the TrafficRadar.DLL is in my \Modules folder and if I add a display like  GPH fuel rate (digital display) to the screen, it's there but all I have is a "range" of zero, no control at all, no traffic displays.   It's a blank screen with the grid and 0.0 nm, that's all.

This is a very simple, but effective traffic "fish-finder" as the local pilot's call it on VHF, I'd like to have one in my General Aviation aircraft.

Does anyone know if there is more to my installation to make C:fs9Traffic routines run on FSX?

I feel I have missed something in my FSX SP2 system that makes it happy to run fs9 anything more than C:fs9GPS...

ThankYou,  N3BXL

I've used it a lot in the past (including integrating the display into my own gauges) so I can confirm it works.  However it's so long since I fired up FSX (and even longer since I made any changes to it) that I don't remember the details any more.  Looking at my installation (still on the HDD!) I have the following lines in dll.xml:

    <Launch.Addon>
        <Name>Traffic Radar</Name>
        <Disabled>False</Disabled>
        <Path>Modules\TrafficRadar.dll</Path>
    </Launch.Addon>

and of course the dll itself in the Modules folder.

I don't quite understand how you're trying to use it, I'm not familiar with the GPH fuel rate gauge you mention.  In the zip file there are a couple of gauges that use it and I suggest you test it with one of those first.

Be aware that some versions of this module - I don't know about the one you downloaded - have a bug that causes the traffic info to freeze after about an hour.  My installation actually contains a different version to the one in the zip I have archived (132kb vs 160kb) but I can't remember where I got that or why I'm using it.

Izamm,  Thanks for the reply but I am still not running on the one and only TrafficRadar.dll have have dated 2012 and is 157k in size.   I now have six copies of the FSX modified 157k file from as many download sources I could find on the subject.  No joy, so I got into the TrafficRadar.XML and found typos that build the screen and setup the “stack” and I have something to look at, but with “Personal Radar” running next to it, only Personal Radar displays traffic.   If only I was sure that the copy of TrafficRadar.dll was any good I would be happy to finish my take on the XML changes?

 I have run out of ideas on what to do and yes I wrote to Doug Dawson about this issue with no responses yet.

Any ideas where I could find your smaller dll file?    Ron-N3BXL

You likely won't get any reply from Doug as he has left the hobby several years ago permanently. 😢

Thank you N4GIX, I guess I need to make a plea on all all FSX Gauge Forums to see if anyone has a different copy of TrafficRadar.dll than what is offered in Doug Dawson’s TrafficRadar.zip dated 2012?  I really would like to see it run but I don’t have FS9.    Wish me luck N3BXL

Well, I am running the original Traffic Radar I was after all along.  I found that David Robles had TrafficRadar.GAU inside his B52H download off FlyawaySimulation's radar section.  Yes, I had to download the entire airplane to get this "compiled" 436K file, but why not?   It works!   That was all I wanted, was a working FSX version of the original TrafficRadarXML and now I do.  All the wasted time I did getting back into C++ to find out what went wrong, kind of makes me want to write to David and see where he found this .GAU file?  I just thought I'd save someone else the trouble of getting a traffic radar on board an FSX airplane and this is one ( the only?) way for doing so?   Blue Sky's,   N3BXL
