September 15, 20223 yr Hi all just looking for a little guidance last couple of flights i have done following the atc instructions to descend i all ways over shoot the glide profile for the ils if i start to descend earlier i get instructed to clime at the minuet i have the clime rate set to 4000 FPM Cruse Alt 32000 Plan GS 440 and descent Rate 2000 FPM would they roughly be correct for the 737-700 and what would be good setting for a GA plane like the Piper arrow 3 or the Cessna 414
September 15, 20223 yr Commercial Member 1800 is a typical descent rate setting. However, you can make it lower if you are consistently getting left too high on the descent. I've seen as low as 1200FPM. Remember, if you exceed the Plan GS on the descent for each leg, that will cause you to be too high as well. Also, if it seems you are not going to make it down in time, pull back the throttles and slow down. That will give more time for the descent. For the Piper, 500-800 should work and for the twin Cessna, try 800-1200. It all really depends on your GS relative to the descent rate so you have enough time to get down. The faster you fly, the faster your descent rate needs to be. Dave
September 15, 20223 yr Speed/clean/speed brakes: 0.78M / 280 knots 2200 fpm/3100 fpm, 250 knots 1700 fpm/2300 fpm and VREF 40 + 70 1100 fpm/1400 fpm is what you should in a 736 to 739. You definitely want to make room by setting a lower setting as Dave pointed out. If you happen to get behind for some reason, having that lower setting will start you down earlier and give you some breathing room to make it up. Rick Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/
