"Four" is recognized as "For"

Featured Replies

I was trying to read back landing clearance and the controller misinterpreted the number four as "for". This is the transcript from the program:

White text: "Islander Three Papa Mike Negative, you are cleared To land On runway One Four"

Green text: "Cleared Land Runway One for Islander Three Papa Mike"

White text: "Islander Three Papa Mike Negative, you are cleared To land On runway One Four"

Green text: "Cleared to Land To Runway One for Islander Three Papa Mike"

White text: "Islander Three Papa Mike Negative, you are cleared To land On runway One Four"

Etc. until I gave up on the readback and just reported when I was on final. ATC communication proceeded normally from there.

Was my read-back correct according to proper ATC phraseology? Or is this a bug in speech recognition?

This was with version 2021 v2.6.3.1_x64 on Windows 11 with MSFS 2020.

I love the program. Thanks for creating and maintaining it, Dave!

Speech recognition works well, but there are always edge cases like this that won't be interpreted properly unfortunately. As humans, we can make the determination of FOUR and FOR based on on the context in which the word is used. Speech recognition doesn't necessarily have that context.

In a situation like this, I would say  "Cleared to Land Runway One Four, for Islander Three Papa Mike". That typically gets around this problem
