Lenovo T7: what to expect?

Featured Replies

After years of no-flying I'm looking for a desktop to restart this hobby with msfs2020.

I've been looking at the Lenovo T7 and woud like to play msfs at very high-max graphics, very good fps, fluently and with addons like pmdg, fenix and hq payware airports with traffic.

The T7 has:

i9 12900K, RTX3080i, 64 GB RAM, 2TB SSD.

Will this rig do the job? What are your thoughts or experieces?

Thanks for your advice.

Yeah that's a high end product.  What monitor and more importantly what resolution will you pair it with?  I'd recommend 1440P.  This is the 32" version of the one I have (only had space for 27 wish I had 32").  It could run 4k as well but with high end addons (ie the perfect cpu killing combo like dense clouds, payware scenery and airliners) you'll still dip into the 20's with ultra settings at 4k.

If you can build your own there's a really powerful AMD cpu, the 5800X3D that pretty much smokes all the Intel CPUs at the moment (the 13xxx series are due out shortly and might surplant it).  The CPU itself is about as cheap as my 12700K was 6 months ago.

You could still do a 3080 Ti and you only really need 32GB of RAM.  2TB M.2 SSD will be plenty as well.  I'd get a PSU of about 850w (1000w) if you're considering one of those RTX 4090 GPUs some day.

Thanks @ryanbatc! I currently use a Samsung LS24R650 monitor, that's nothing fancy I guess... The 5800X3D for sure is a very interesting CPU, maybe I'll wait for the 7xxxX3D to be released.

Would you still do a new build with the 5800 X3D on the AM4 platform given that it has no upgrade path in the future? Toying with the idea myself but wasn’t sure whether to wait till 7 series X3D on AM5. I suppose on the AM4 platform you could still upgrade GPU etc in the future.

No if I were building today is wait to see what the new x3d AMD will do.

A custom build for 400€ less would be:

  1. Corsair 4000D Airflow -
  2. Intel Core i9 12900K
  3. MSI MPG Z690 Edge WiFi DDR5
  4. Cooler Master MasterLiquid PL240 Flux
  5. Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Gaming OC LHR
  6. Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 5600Mhz - 32GB (2x16GB)
  7. Samsung 980 Pro - 500GB
  8. Samsung 980 Pro - 2TB
  9. Cooler Master V850 V2 Gold -
  10. Windows 11 Pro -

What are your thoughts on that? Seems a better system and a much better deal to me.
