Unable to find where to get CameraPosition X

Featured Replies

Couple of quick questions regarding CameraPosition X:

Is it still available and, if so, where?

Does it work with P3D V5?

If I understand it correctly, [aircraft].cfg only allows 10 "hotkey" camera definitions, but CameraPosition X allows a lot more using its own internal keystroke programming?

SimMarket and JustFlight still have it, and there is an installer for P3D V5 too.

Please note that for the hotkeys to work, CPX has to be running all the time.

Thank you so much for the quick response!

Two quick additional questions:

  1. Are there any particular issues with CPX running all the time?
  2. How well does CPX "play" with LINDA and FSUIPC?

Thanks again!

1. Not that I know of
2. There have never been any reports or support requests about either of the two.

But - why use CPX in the first place? If camera control is what you are after, wouldn't Chaseplane etc. be a better choice?
As far as I know, CPX has mostly been used by people who had to set up multiple screens, for example in home cockpits. But it must have been months since the last copy has been sold. Legacy addons are dead these days...

I'm not looking for something to control external camera views, but internal cockpit ones.

I'm trying to figure out how to create additional camera views, and then program buttons to bring up those views as well as reset standard views to default. (For example, with the A2A B-17 there is the standard virtual cockpit view that starts off as if the POV is sitting in the pilot's seat and looking forward, then additional views such as Right Side (copilot's seat), Center Panel, Top Turret, Autopilot Panel, etc.) If I pan around in any of those views, I'd like to have the ability to "reset" the POV back to whatever default position and zoom I have previously set, and do so using a button programmed through LINDA and/or FSUIPC.

Additionally, I'd like to create custom camera views. For example, a close-up of the pilot left side electrical panel, the pilot front, center front, and copilot front instrument panels, the overhead radio panel, etc. These I would also like to--after having created them--map to buttons. I know I can call up 2D panels for some of these, but I don't want 2D panels, I want to remain in virtual cockpit and just change camera POV.

I'm not sure Chaseplane does that, but it did look as if CPX did.

I always assumed that Chaseplane handles internal cameras just the same as external ones? Like EZDok does? But I haven't looked at those apps for a long time. I had EZDOk and I used it for internal cameras only.

AFAIK you can create cameras for any purpose with those apps, internal and external -  and much more (like head shake etc.) They bypass the simualtors camera system entirely, using their very own logic.

CPX switches between the camera definitions in the aircraft.cfg - which you can create or modify (visually) with the app too, that is correct. It is not a "virtual" camera app like the others, it sticks to the in-sim camera system.

I've looked at ChasePlane, and I'll admit it does look quite impressive. But as I'm not at all interested in playing with external views, and simply want to have the ability to hotkey define and use internal camera positions more than the nine total ones currently allowed, it sounds as if CPX will work quite handily. I don't mind that CPX will need to be running concurrent with P3D--at the moment, when I fly I have Teamspeak, JoinFS, LittleNavMap, ActiveSky, LINDA, vPilot, and Volanta running. So what's one more? 🤪
