External hard drive for add on scenery MSFS?

Featured Replies

I have a 1TB SSD drive for MSFS that currently has my Community folder with all the add on scenery.  I have been slowly buying add on scenery since the release of MSFS and its now almost halfway full.  It won't be long before it is full.

I noticed a local retailer has an external 8TB USB hard drive for not that bad of a price.  This would offer plenty of storage for the foreseeable future.  I am not sure how MSFS would react if I started putting scenery on this external hard drive and somehow linking it to MSFS?  I thought I had heard it does not like this but never tried it.  Right now I am okay but thinking of the future.  Its this or hopefully soon I can get an eternal SSD drive that is a lot larger then what is currently offered.  For a long time it was 1TB but maybe they are larger now but not 8TB yet.

There is an internal 8Tb SSD for 719.99 at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-870-QVO-SATA-MZ-77Q8T0B/dp/B089C3TZL9/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=8tb&qid=1667940683&s=pc&sr=1-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.2b70bf2b-6730-4ccf-ab97-eb60747b8daf. It is SATA, not NVME but would work for storage. There is a NVME 8Tb version but I doubt you want to spend between $1300-1500.
