XP11 GTN750 & G1000 screens going black

Featured Replies

Hi all. First post here.

I run X-Plane 11.55 64-bit OpenGL. PC Is a MSI MEG Trident X 10TE-1294 Gaming Desktop (microsoft.com) with RTX 3080 graphics card on Windows 10.
My other hardware is a Honeycomb Alpha Flight Control and Bravo Throttle Quadrant, as well as RealSimGear GTN750/GFC500 Bundle.
The plane I am training on is a Cessna 172 with G1000.

My problem is that no matter what I have tried along with someone assisting me, anywhere from 10 minutes on, whether flying or sitting doing nothing on the runway, suddenly the GTN750 and G1000 simultaneously black out (turn off), and I cannot turn them back on.

Our attempts at a solution to date have included as many things as we have read about online, including these excellent forums- from upgrading graphics drivers, enabling/disabling Vulkan, making the GTN750 master and syncing it to the G1000, upgrading/downgrading the Garmin Trainer software modules, to reinstalling X-Plane 11 which IIRC v11.05 (?) before any updating, and several other things I have likely forgotten to mention- but there are many hours of frustrating try-and-fail attempts at a fix.

I used to run this combination successfully on a Microsoft Surface Studio, but it didn't have the grunt, so I upgraded to the PC above.

Does anyone have a thought as to a solution? I am sorry for anything important I may have omitted in this post, so thank you for reading and I will supply any additional information you may need if you ask.

Many thanks, Gary

Make sure you don't have an unintended switch assignment set to the avionics bus on your Honeycomb peripherals.

Thanks Bob for that. Pardon my lack of technical understanding but what would I be looking for to modify specifically? And would that be in the ini file or somewhere else?

Does your RealSimGear GTN750/GFC500 Bundle get power from a USB port on your computer?  Could it be that port is going into energy saver mode after 10 minutes?

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Charliearon thank you I will look at the USB power setup on the PC. It is an inconsistent length of time, but indeed USB energy saver mode could be a consideration.

So I have looked at and we have disabled the USB option under power settings, albeit to no avail. My friend also disabled all device manager USB sleep settings. Also no good.

We tried the Cessna sans G1000, and the same thing occurred, so it seems to be pointing to either the GTN, or the Honeycomb as Bob mentioned above also. We are going to check the GTN driver versions on my earlier Surface Studio install also to see if there is some notable difference there.

Thanks for all your help thus-far as well as any further ideas anyone may have 😊

Nothing to do with any of this it is not installed properly, uninstall and reiinstall but you need to delete all folders including the hidden ones and when you reinstall it must be in the c drive only! that is how the program works! with latest version from garmin which has to be also installed in the c drive!  garmin only works with everything in the C DRIVE! it was a security measure that they implemented long time ago...

Hi Ian. All in C drive already. But am thinking reinstall. Also going to write to RSG. Thanks.
