November 14, 20223 yr To all, Been using Radar Contact from back when Moby Dick was a minnow and still use it with generally no problems. However RCV4 doesn't seem to recognize the codes that I enter into the CS B-52 transponder. I have verified that the codes are being properly entered; so I need to know if there is a workaround for this. The RCV4 ATC of course continually tells me to enter the code (after I've done my best to enter it ~:) Any tips or suggested fixes for this dilemma will be very welcome. Best to all, Ken Boardman Ken Boardman
November 14, 20223 yr Moderator Hi Ken, if it’s only with this one aircraft it sounds like it’s not writing to the transponder in your sim. What is it? FSX, P3D or XP? Ray (Cheshire, England). November 15, 20223 yr Author Hi Ray, Thank you for helping. This is the only aircraft I've had this issue with. And the Sim is FSX Acceleration, Best regards, Ken Ken Boardman
November 15, 20223 yr Moderator Hi Ken, I don't have FSX but if you have a paid version of FSUIPC you can interrogate the Transponder value in FSX. I'm using the P3D version so I can't guarantee the offsets wil be identical. Check the FSUIPC docs for FSX which should be in a subfolder under Modules. Open FSUIPC and select the logging tab. On the right enter an offset of 0354 and select S16 in the Type column. Choose FS Title Bar to display the value and press OK. You should now see a 4 digit number in the title bar. Open Windows Calculator, select Programmer mode, check DEC is selected and enter that number. DEC will show the number you have entered and HEX will show the actual Transponder Code as 'seen' in FSX and Radar Contact. The Transponder Code should be compatible with all aircraft, default or payware. It's possible CS are using specialist code but that would be strange. Ray (Cheshire, England). November 15, 20223 yr Moderator Having done a brief search maybe this is the solution... https://www.captainsim.org/forum/csf.pl?num=1621255672/1#1 Ray (Cheshire, England). November 15, 20223 yr Author Thank you for taking time to explain the FSUIPC procedure Ray. And for the codes. I will try it. Also, the transponder click-wheels on the pilot's side panel IFF "box" in the B-52's VC appear to function normally and I am able to set the Code and it looks great ~:) But the code (apparently) just doesn't go anywhere (doesn't get transmitted). I will follow up here after I use your FSUIPC tip. Many thanks, Ken Ken Boardman
November 17, 20223 yr Author Hi Ray, I followed your instructions (above) and the number 4608 is on the FSX title bar, and I entered this number into the Win Calculator using your instructions. What does this do ? And when RCV4 assigns a code where / how should I enter it ? I'm a bit confused regarding how this works. Ken Ken Boardman
November 17, 20223 yr Moderator Hi Ken, 4608 = 1200. That’s the default Transponder code in any aircraft in FSX and P3D. When RC gives you a squawk code use the mouse on your aircraft transponder to rotate the dial to set that code. Do you see the number in the Title bar change as well as the numbers on the transponder when you do this? The procedure I described is so you can check what code is being read by RC. It’s more investigative than a solution. The only solution is to enter the required squawk code. Switch to a default aircraft to become familiar with this procedure. That may help. Just to clarify… DEC will show the number you have entered and pressing HEX will show the actual Transponder Code as 'seen' in FSX and Radar Contact. Ray (Cheshire, England). November 18, 20223 yr Author I understand what to look for now Ray. When I flew the PMDG B744 last night I noticed that the code on the title bar changed when I entered the RCV4 code. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens tonight when I try the B52 again ~:) The info and troubleshooting tip you have provided have been very helpful. Best regards, Ken Ken Boardman
November 18, 20223 yr Author Hi Ray, Tonight I set the RCV4 assigned code into the Capt Sim B-52 transponder and nothing changed up on the FSX title bar. I captured an image which can be obtained from the Dropbox link below. I've tried various positions of the transponders switches hoping to see the code on the title bar change, but no joy. Not sure what to try next. I don't know if adding a 3rd party transponder "pop-up" to the VC (making all the necessary panel.cfg file changes) would help. Do you know where the transponder / IFF is coded in the typical FSX aircraft (ie. Model / .mdl file, etc) ? November 18, 20223 yr Moderator Hi Ken. The simplest solution might be to hand comms over to Otto prior to requesting Clearance. RC will then set the code itself. Once that’s done return comms to the pilot. During some flights a different code will be requested by ATC. Make sure Otto has comms then. The default key control is CTRL+Shift+K but check in the program as that’s from memory. There may be 3rd party utilities that allow you to set the Transponder. Have a look in the AvSim Library. This problem is clearly down to CS and a fix seems unlikely. Ray (Cheshire, England). November 18, 20223 yr Author That's outstanding Ray. I normally always hand Comms over to Otto, but not until I've requested push-back. I look forward to trying this solution (Otto, before clearance request) for my next B52 flight. Sounds like a simple solution ~:) Thanks again, Ken Ken Boardman
November 19, 20223 yr Author Hi Ray, Handing Comms over to Otto prior to requesting clearance did the trick ~:) Many thanks for your help with this. I'm ready to make skid marks in the sky with my CS B-52. Best regards, Ken Ken Boardman
