November 29, 20223 yr Author Vicki Baum wrote the book Grand Hotel. Twenty-three of her novels were turned into movies, mainly in the 1930s. She led an interesting life. Married her childhood boyfriend and had 2 kids. Being Jewish and living in Germany, she had people being mean to her in the streets. She took up boxing and trained in the same gym with Marleina Dietrich and was rumored to carry a pistol.
