Help with SHIFT function

Featured Replies

Hello

I need help with the Shift function.  I have read the information several times but I just can’t get it to work.

First let me apologize for the long description but I thought it might make my situation clearer. I’m running P3Dv4.5 with FSUIPC6 and LINDA 3.3.5.

I have the A2A P-51 MIL and CIV planes.  With the MIL I use 1 Saitek Switch panel and with the CIV I use 2.  For my pit I have removed the ignition and landing gear lever from the first panel and placed those controls in their correct locations.  The ignition is now in the center switch box below the instrument panel and the landing gear lever is on the left side under the trim controls.  The remaining switches are mounted under the shroud in place of the gun sight.

When I fly the MIL there are no problems because the needed controls are accessible.  But when I fly the CIV I place the second switch panel on the top of the center switch box which covers the MIL ignition. I use the second panel for CIV autopilot controls.

I could use the ignition on the second panel but the CIV has an autopilot with a 5 position knob that I want to use instead.  With the shift function I could use shift “on” to make the second panel ignition available then shift “off” to use it as the AP knob. I want to use the rocker next to the ignition as the shift button.

I look forward to your help with the shift function.

Thank you

Ed

Start LINDA, then select the aircraft you want to use the SHIFT function.

Toggle the rocker switch to have LINDA identify it. Let's use as an example that the rocker switch toggles between switch positions 10 and 11.

At the bottom of the controls page you should see a line that reads:

Select the Shifted function pages o Unshifted  o 1  o 2   [ ] Apply Shift Globally to all devices.

Tick the radio button for Unshifted, and tick the Apply Shift Globally to all devices box.

On the Unshifted page, right-click switch position 10, select "SHIFTED MODES" and then select "UNSHIFTED". Then right-click switch position 11, select "SHIFTED MODES" and then select "SHIFTED ONE".

Next tick the radio button for 1 which will open up a new functions page. Again, right-click switch position 10, select "SHIFTED MODES" and then select "UNSHIFTED", then right-click switch position 11, select "SHIFTED MODES" and then select "SHIFTED ONE".

The UNSHIFTED page should have three, black bold column headers of On Press, On Repeat, and On Release. The SHIFTED ONE page (accessed by the radio button 1) will have three, blue bold column headers of On Press *, On Repeat *, and On Release *.

This will set up the basic SHIFT functionality. To use it, let's use as an example button/switch position 12. On the UNSHIFTED page it is programmed to turn ignition on when pressed and off when released. On the SHIFTED ONE page it is programmed to turn AP on when pressed and off when released. When rocker 10 is on then #12 toggles ignition; when rocker 11 is on then #12 toggles AP.

You have to add the shifted modes across both pages, otherwise once you've shifted LINDA does not see the unshift command. Also, if you do not tick the Apply Shift Globally to all devices, if the shifting switch is on one device but the switches you want switched are on a different device, then the second device will not switch.

Thank you Masterius!   That is the step by step information I need.

I'm going to fire up the flight PC and give it a try.

Take care

Glad I could help. Let me know how it turns out.

Hi Masterius

I have tried the steps several times and I can’t get the shift function to work. I must be missing something.

All settings are on the same Saitek Switch Panel.  I use rocker number 7 for the SHIFT function. On the Unshifted page I have the AP settings and the Shifted page I have the ignition.

The only reaction I get with the rocker in either position is the AP knob turning. The ignition never moves.

I have even reversed the Unshifted and Shifted one thinking that when the rocker is flipped up On Press would be Shifted and On Release it would go back to Unshifted with no different reaction.

What I'm missing here?

Thank you for your help

Ed

On both pages add SHIFTED ONE to position 8/On Press, and delete it from position 7/On Release.

Just want to understand, but position 8 is a different rocker.

Update

Just cleared rocker 7 On Release set rocker to SHIFTED ONE on both pages with no luck.

Give me a bit to work on this

Thank you!

Sorry for the delay, but this took me a while. I'm only used to using the mode function with the "traditional" Saitek-style 3-position mode switch, so this took quite a bit of playing around with.

First off, untick the "Apply Shift Globally to all devices.

Next, delete all the shift (UNSHIFTED and SHIFTED ONE) assignments.

For both On Press assignments for #7 on pages Unshifted and 1, assign the shift command "GLOBAL SHIFT".

When toggling back and forth between the two, you'll hear one beep or two beeps. That's normal, so don't worry about something strange going on. This has been working for me, so (hopefully!) this'll do the trick for you.

Thank you for taking time to help with this function and no need to apologize!

Family just left and it's late so I won't have time to try this tonight but it will be the first thing I do in the morning.

Take care

Hi Masterius

I just tried the setup you posted last night and I'm not having any success.

Here are pics of the 2 pages.

When I press the #7 rocker up the LINDA page doesn't change (remains on the Unshifted screen, should it change?) and there are no beeps. I turn the dial on the panel and the AP knob rotates in the VC. Moving the rocker either up or down doesn't change the LINDA page and only the AP knob turns. The ignition never turns regardless of the position of the rocker. I also restarted the sim and LINDA with still no ignition action.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks for your patience and help!

Ed

I just rechecked mine and it still works so I'm a bit at a loss. I don't have the A2A CIV, just the MIL one, and I don't recognize the ApLgsKnobPos commands so I can't test those. I'm also running P3Dv5.

Out of curiosity, is the Saitek Panels box ticked on the Setup Linda page, and are the switch panels enabled on the Setup Joysticks page?

Crud...Just realized I'd overlooked posting a step:

For assignment #7 on page 2 assign the shift command "SHIFT CYCLE" to all three columns (On Press, On Repeat, and On Release).

Yes, the Saitek Panels are checked on the LINDA setup joysticks and setup LINDA page.

I think there may be controller issues.  I removed all shift selections and the AP Knob and ignition settings, saved it then synced with the sim.  With nothing set for the rotary hardware the AP Knob in the VC still turns.  I set the rotary for the ignition and the AP knob, not the ignition, turns.

I tried setting other rockers for simple toggles, some in the LINDA module and some in the Default FSX list, like landing gear lights, fuel shutoff and primer and those items in the VC are not reacting.

I just saw your update. With AP reset on page one and ignition on page 2 I set On Press on page 1 to GLOBAL SHIFT and all 3 positions on page 2 to SHIFT CYCLE. The AP in the VC moves but the ignition has no reaction.

I'm seeing a pattern here and it may be the controller or software issue I mentioned above.  I switched planes to the A2A MIL think creating the new CIV module could be corrupt.  The MIL only needs one Saitek panel. I checked the current settings and they are fine.  I then set an open rocker to landing lights and nothing in the VC.  I tried a SHIFT rocker with GLOBAL SHIFT and SHIFT CYCLE with the shifted page set for fuel pump.  Nothing moved.

Based on my testing do you see anything that may be causing LINDA to accept the election in the screen but not connect to the sim/VC?

I'm going to look in the config-hid.lua file for any obvious conflicts.

I appreciate all of the time you have put into solving this function.

Take care

Ed

Hey Ed,

I may have accidentally confused you. Let me try this again.

There are three pages: Unshifted, 1 (shifted one) and 2 (shifted two). Since this can get confusing, I'm going to call the unshifted page as page A, the 1 / shifted one page as page B, and the 2 / shifted two page as page C.

On the page A and page B, set #7 On Press as "Global Shift".

On page C set #7 On Press, On Repeat, and On Release as "Shift Cycle".
