We have soaring weather....

Ok, I'm not sure about the realism of the up or down drafts next to ridges, how realistic they are in each sim etc...Lacking the real world experience makes it impossible to appreciate these things 😞

For the thermal centering techniques, you have any advice ? I actually don't know the real-world procedures, so any tip is very welcome 🙂

There are many texts on it, some more sophisticated, others more easy to read.

A very simple and good one: Thermal sources and streets (jamescooper.com.au)

Cooper started flying gliders in the very same year I got my license - 1980 🙂

He has an old site, but some material is worth the read: Articles (jamescooper.com.au)

in this last link you'll find a very good article about thermal centring techniques.

I did catch the best lift under a Cu in the latest XP12, with some wind, exactly where it was supposed to be found - upwind from the cloud base...

Depends on:

- Cagarini allowing me some free time @home PC... He grunts whenever he sees I am going to seat at the PC and grab the joystick... then jumps to the cockpit and tries hard to make my simmer pilot life a true mess 🙂

- me actually being @home for the necessary time to setup the flight... and

- finding out how to do online multiplayer flying n XP12 🙂

I don't use VR, and I don't know if the instructions in the video linked bellow are good for XP12, but looks cool 🙂

Set up XCSoar for VR on the X-Plane Simulator - Klingberg Wing MkII Development - YouTube

Apparently there's already a working version of the NMEA-TCP plugin for XP12:

GitHub - cyhex/X-Plane-NMEA-to-TCP-plugin: X-Plane NMEA to TCP plugin

The original Tutorials by Nodd are here, at the .Org, and the latest posts refer to XP12 already:

Reaching home from work. ISO compliance is some work,  Some air time needed.

Take your time Zulfi... Latest beta broke weather 😞

It's mostly inconsistent - lot's of GRIB errors...

Let's wait for a fix, and, I haven't yet figured out how to do multiplayer in XP12...

ISO and other aviation-specific norms we have to comply with at the metoffice are a true PITA !!!

I see an error "Grib get field failed" , don't think it's downloading the wx.

We can test MP , get on Discord when you can.

I dropped Discord for good Zulfi - uninstalled FOREVER!

Discord is a PITA to use....

Beware!!! Ya know what!!!

Never turn back.... the guy already cracked the weather again....

I don't think it's the last beta who broke it because it was working perfectly fine yesterday. According to the org it seems to be an issue with the governement-weather-service blocking the IP-Number of Laminar's server. I don't think this should be a big deal. But i am just concerned that they the guys&girls from that weather-office aren't available during week-ends to solve it with LR...

Ehehe, I work at a MetOffice, and use XP, so, I would never close our servers to LR 🙂

OFC I do not know exactly what caused that possible IP blocking, should that be the case with the access to NOAA GRIBs... which I really don't know for sure if it's the cause for these errors I started getting today when fetching RWW in XP12.

Ah ! so it's NOAA blocking it.  LR would surely settle it.

It probably could be due an IDS / IPS if it's not being blocked by a human.

Haven't tried using manual Wx in XP12, from what I remember in XP11 you could ask it to read a wx file

Don't see that option in XP12, strange

I am trying to use the TAF METAR for VABB but I am not sure how to add certain things from the metar into XP.

Wish they would put the feature to read a wx file in XP12
