TOD Calculation

Featured Replies

My P2A TOD and Fenix A320 (MSFS) TOD differ hugely so i want to be able to align them more. So I know that if i alter Plan GS and/or Decent rate values in P2A, i can alter the TOD point on the map, but does anyone know where i can get what that info is from the Fenix MCDU/SimBrief/Navigraph etc etc.

At the moment i am willy nilly changing one of both these values to try get the TOD's to match or as close as i can get, But just done a Flight in to Athens on ILS21Y and for the life of me could not get the TOD's to be anywhere near each other. Closest was 56miles.

Also after making changes to P2A Plan GS or Decent figures do i have to then re- Validate and re- file my FPLN?

Huge thanks for some guidance to this NOOB. LOL!

If you fly Ailiners, a good starting place is to set the Descent rate to 1800 FPM.  As you fly, P2A recalculates the TOD using your actual cruise ground speed and so you may get the descent before or after the TOD spot in the plan.

As in real life, ATC is not going to give you descents starting where your FMS system wants you to start, so you only need the TOD to be about right for the aircraft so you will have enough time and distance to make the descent.  As you make the descent, you need to stick to the planned airspeed, or slower, so that you don't chew up more distance than planned.  Slowing to 250 or less below 10,000 ft is also important.

Thanks for your answer Dave, maybe i was getting a little fixated on matching the TOD's. I will just enjoy the cruise now instead of drastically adjusting |Planed GS and /or Descent rate.

If i do make a change mid flight, but before descent, i note the Validate and File loose their Green 'OK' colour. Do i have to re-validate and re- file or again, just leave alone?

Great Program BTW Dave, and this is certainly a huge stepping stone for me before trying the LIVE ATC of Vatsim

Glad you like the program.

If you do make any changes to the Flight Plan, you can Validate to be sure all the checks are done and everything is updated.

But don't File it again as that will overwrite the ATC copy that ATC is using to control the flight.  You would only File mid-Flight if you want to "re-initialize" ATC after a crash or something.

Huge Thanks again Dave.
