July 7, 20232 yr July is 'Jane Austen' month, much to my wife's delight. And several Youtubers are holding readathons. In one, a reader held up a non Austen historical novel The Dance Tree by Kiran Hargrave. It concerns the true story of Frau Troffea's strange gyrations through the streets of Strasberg (on the Alsace River) in 1518. It caused such a sensation that the historical event became very well documented. Eventually Mrs. Troffea's strange exhibition led to 30, and then in a couple of weeks, 400 citizens also dancing for hours on end every day until nightfall. Apparently for no reason. And they did not appear happy while doing so. The town elders grew worried and built a stage, hired musicians who gradually played slower and slower so as to make a cure. This backfired as the music attracted many more dancers. The worried Church clergy sent those affected on a pilgrimage to the nearby shrine chapel of St. Vitus, a few miles away, specifying that they wear red shoes on their walking pilgrimage. This worked. Perhaps because the long walk up and down hills tired them out. It is thought that Wizard of Oz ruby slippers, Cinderella's slippers, and other fairy tales, old and new. mostly all came out of this red shoe incident. Hans Christian Anderson's tales included one called "The red shoes". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_plague_of_1518 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
