VOR beacons do nothing. DME information is okay

Recommended Posts

No simple VOR/DME flight can be made with the Fokker F28.
The VOR beacons give no information but the DME information does. E.g. SPY (113.3) PAM (117.8). Not only the F28 but also other GA aircraft.
MSFS/Asobo do something about this!

I found this on another site devoted to real GA flying in Europe.  I looked on ForeFlight and those navaids are not even shown as part of the layer.  I don't have the actual European charts so I can only look at Navigraph.  For some reason, Navigraph still shows a virtual VOR overlay with radials, but they are displayed as DME only.  So I take that to mean that you are expected to have GPS capability to get around.  The DME info alone seems a little useless.  Nevertheless, VORs and NDBs are slowly being removed in many countries.  The government doesn't want to service and provide navigational aids when they expect you to have a GPS on board.  I know that ruins the idea of old-school flying with the F28 or BAe146, but it's just the reality of tech nowadays.

After a thorough consultation process, it was agreed to reduce radio navigation stations in the Netherlands to the minimum needed as a fallback infrastructure. This reduction will be performed as follows.

All current ILS and DME stations will continue to operate. VOR and NDB beacons will be decommissioned.

However, four VOR radio beacons will be retained as a fallback and resilience network to overcome the case of GNSS outages. These VOR stations are: SPL, RTM, EEL and MAS.

All NDB (or locator) stations and the VOR beacons not mentioned above in the Amsterdam FIR will progressively be taken out of service in the 2019-2021 timeframe
