CPU Fan Error Message After Adding M2 Drive

Featured Replies

Tonight I added a 4TB M2 drive to my computer.  The drive itself is working fine, but now when I boot up I get an error message:

CPU Fan Error!

Press F1 to Run Setup

If I press F1 to enter bios, then exit the bios without saving anything, all seems to work well.  All of my fans are spinning, hot air is being pushed out and the CPU is not overheating.  I did a test in the Fenix A320 at inibuilds JFK with AI traffic and my CPU did not burst into flames.  I had to remove my GPU to get at the M2 socket, but the GPU is working fine and I've double checked all other connections, particularly the CPU_FAN and AIO connections into the motherboard to ensure I didn't knock something loose.

Reading about this online there was a suggestion in the ASUS bios to disable monitoring of CPU Fan speed which I did and now the error message does not happen.  This really seems more like a workaround than a cure so I was looking for any feedback on this.  Is there anything to worry about not monitoring CPU fan speed?  I assume this will not impede monitoring of the actual CPU temperature?  Any idea why my computer now seems to think the CPU fans are not spinning even though they are?

Thanks,

Dave

This is normal your AIO will not be connected to the CPU fan header, Disabling the CPU fan header stops the Error. I have always used ASUS MBs this is for when you don`t have water cooling AIO but a passive cooling fan blowing on a cooler.

Ok perfect, thanks.  Weird that it cropped up now given I’ve had the same cooler / CPU setup for several years now.
