Do cloud shadows use VAS?

Featured Replies

Hello, I've been using DX10 Fixer and always wanted to buy the cloud shadows add-on as well, does adding the cloud shadows use VAS?  And if so, is it a significant amount?

I ask because with all scenery and sometimes VAS hungry planes I use, I am often already pretty close to the maximum VAS limit.

P.S. Thank you so much @SteveFx for your awesome DX10 Fixer Tool, it really has made the FSX experience so much better with all of it's great features.  I've only been using it for a few years and I know I'm late to the party in saying this but I am so grateful for it because I still use FSX:SE often for various reasons even though I do use modern flight simulators as well and I still plan to keep using it for a long time to come.

hi, thanks for your kind words.

Cloud Shadows doesn’t use significant VAS, i cannot say it uses zero as any code has to allocate small amounts of memory but I don’t think you will notice any difference - ask me for a refund if it’s an issue.

It does use more video memory on the GPU but any modern card should have lots free when running fsx.

it does use some cpu which could cause a small drop in frame rates in cpu bound scenarios.

Thank you Steve for your reply, sorry for taking long, I forgot to follow this thread so I could get notifications.

I have plenty of video memory, 16GB VRAM which is more than FSX could ever use so that shouldn't be a problem and I have a pretty good CPU, I set the affinity mask to use 14 of 16 threads and overall my frame rates are really good.  I can afford a small amount of VAS as long as it's very small amount.  I will purchase it then and give it a try.  It would be awesome to have some cloud shadows in the sim.  It's the one thing I'm missing from FSX to visually enhance the realism.

Thanks again for your fantastic work.
