Anyone Using LG UltraGear 48GQ900

Featured Replies

I recently posted a question about the Samsung Odyssey Ark 55" monitor, as I am looking at a new sim buikd around a new monitor. My Philips 43" has hit the bed and needs to be replaced. So it seems reasonable that I consider a larger screen. I am looking at several options, but one which ha staken my attention is the LG UltraGear 48GQ900. Is there anyone here that is running this monitor and if so, what are your thoughts? One thing I am conscious about, is what I think is called automatic dimming (or similar) where the monitor keeps adjusting the brightness depending on the scene. Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello there! I have been using this monitor since OCT 2022, and I must say, I am extremely satisfied with its quality and performance. As you pointed out, the critical aspect to note is the auto-dimming feature, which may present a problem as it cannot be disabled. You can go into settings, turn off SMART ENERGY SAVINGS, AUTOMATIC STANDBY, and DEEP SLEEP MODE, and while running, any game, will not show that issue. You are fine there, but the problem is that if you open any other program after about 5 minutes or so without touching anything, it will do auto-dimming and go to sleep. If you can overlook that issue (which drives me crazy, considering I spent $1,500), then feel free to proceed. They know that some individuals have a problem with it but haven't taken any measures to resolve it, even with the updated firmware.

Ah, thanks for the information. Yup, that auto dimming 'feature' I think is going to be my biggest issue. It seems crazy that manufacturers add all this bloatware to monitors simply because they think they know best. Your feedback has been very helpful, thanks. I will continue with my search.

auto dimming 'feature'

Hello, I wanted to bring to your attention another monitor that may be of interest to you. The BenQ MOBIUZ EX480UZ Gaming Monitor is a 48" 4K UHD 120Hz 1ms monitor that does not have the issue of dimming. However, I did notice that the colors needed a lot of adjustments to match the level of the LG monitor. This may be an issue for some, I had to return mine twice because of mishandling, which caused cracked screens. It may be helpful to find a nearby location to compare both monitors before making a decision.

Hiya, thanks for the suggestion, appreciated. Funnily enough I have just this minute looked at that very monitor. However, I have narrowed it down and it's likely to be the Asus 48" OLED PG48UQ. Have read a lot about it and it has an option to turn off auto dimming. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-47-53-OLED-MONITOR-PG48UQ/dp/B0B8NQV8JZ
