November 16, 20232 yr KLM is known as the oldest operating airline in the world (its founding date, in 1919, was just ahead of the equally legendary (Latin American airline) Avianca by 2 months). It's important to note that KLM is currently the oldest operating airline in the world, still operating under its original name, but as a merged entity of the Air France-KLM group. Prior to the 2004 Merger, it was oldest operating airline in the world, operating under its original name, and also as an independent entity. This well-respected airline, over 100 years old now, has seen the full spectrum of technological evolution in its fleet, since its origin, starting with the humble beginning with its very first a/c, the de Havilland DH-16, to its latest and most modern a/c, the B787-10, which is the subject of my images, below. Here is an airline that e.g., has (in course of time in the past) used all the Douglas Variants (DC-2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10). Please especially note the curious ownership of the DC-5 variant. KLM was the only airline that took delivery of this (rare) Douglas variant. KLM would then go on to deploy the final a/c of the Douglas lineage (the MD-11). My only flight in KLM was in their MD-11 just prior to the time they retired it. I've unique and special memories of that flight, due to an extra-ordinary (personal) experience with an encounter of violent turbulence over the Atlantic. KLM, its crew, and the (sturdy) MD-11 had pulled through this un-nerving (and rather prolonged) ordeal, most admirably. So, I've had a soft spot for KLM everย since as one of my favorite airlines...๐... Anyway, in 2019, expecting to commemorate its heritage as the first airline to reach 100 years, it had started a countdown "100 Days to 100th Anniversary". And it then received its first Boeing 787-10 as a mark of celebration (the airlineย has been already using the 787-9 variant previously). Please find, below, 9 pictures of KLM's impressive long-haluer, from my (Xbox) virtual world, as I am testing the flight characteristics of this a/c, here, with a very short flight from Stuttgart Airport (EDDS), directly up north forย less than 100 miles, towards Frankfurt Airport (EDDF). The 787-10 is the 787 with the longest fuselage of the 3 models, and also with the most seating capacity, but not the one with the longest-range of the trio... ย Thanks for viewing.
