December 16, 20232 yr Hi, I recently had a problem flying. Usually, the fps come out around 40 to 45, but if you fly in cloudy weather, the fps drops to around 7 to 11. So I studied what the problem was and found that the fps fall only when I put the point of view to the volume cloud. It stays at around 11fps (in cloudy weather) until you reach the cruising altitude from the ground. By the way, my sim problem is that if I move my point of view to a cloudless place, the fps will rise above 60fps, and furthermore, after a while after reaching the cruising altitude, the fps will be back to normal again. Even when I'm descending to land, the fps won't drop. I'm currently running Active Sky and REX at the same time. I reinstalled p3d, but it wasn't like this before. The only difference from the previous one is that I bought immersions, is there a possibility that they collided?
December 16, 20232 yr The solution is to not use volumetric clouds, especially in P3Dv5. In v6 they seemed to work better. The 2D clouds actually look pretty good, especially if you use REX or ASCA clouds. December 16, 20232 yr Sounds like GPU overload or potentially both GPU and CPU being overloaded. I run an onscreen fps monitor (it's an option on reshade), which being vsync'd never changes, unless I hit the overload mark on GPU/CPU use. Usually GPU is the culprite, so if I see the fps drop I then check my GPU monitor, confirm the overload, then choose a lower settings preconfig from within P3D. Mostly very high GPU use is related to clouds or casting of vegetation shadows, or overdoing the AA. There has been no mention of workstation specs, the version of P3D in use, nore the plane being flown or immersions purchased, having those whould be helpful to being able to advise further.
