I have a bug where the start button will not stay pressed unless I hold it down manually, which makes the aircraft kinda hard to start realistically. Is there something wrong with my control settings?

Check your starter mode. Manual mode requires you pressing down the button manual, auto doesn't.

Follow the tutorials videos in the EFB FAQ, lots of them.
