Question about exterior lights (aircraft)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Does anyone have a solution for really bright exterior lights (P3Dv5.4)? My most extreme example is the BBS A340, where basically all the exterior lights (navigation, landing lights) during daytime will light up the ground like crazy.

Any assistance/suggested fixes are appreciated (I guess maybe tweaking some effects file could be a solution but I am not sure which one..). 🙂

Does this occur at all airports with other aircraft?

Do you have dynamic lighting om during the day?

For this particular aircraft it occurs at every airport with varying intensity (seemingly dependent on texture). I am pretty sure I have the same effect with dynamic lighting off but I will try again at some point this weekend.

Fortunately this does not affect my other more high fidelity aircrafts at all (pmdg, fslabs, maddog), but for some aircraft like the blackbox A340 and i think some of the captain sim ones have quite intense ground lighting.

It happens to me also. Sadly I couldn't find a solution. Try to check if there are any BBS specific effect files and try to edit them. Maybe a setting suitable for FSX and P3D4 is not good for v5. I'm sorry I can't give a better help, but I hope this works.

EDIT: I see you were also thinking about tweaking some effects. Which ones? I don't know, but if you can make a dummy install for either FSX or P3D and see which effects got installed, that would be a start.

Yeah that sounds like the best approach! Thank you Luis!

Quick follow-up on the above. Disabling dynamic lights will fix the problem (thanks for that suggestion newtie). However, I want to still to use dynamic lights so I instead used the trick suggested by Luis and I was hence able to find the correct files to modify (below is the result after some preliminary tweaking of "Color Start" and "Color End" parameters). This has produced acceptable result and I am sure after further tweaking one can get it even better looking. 🙂
