March 13, 20242 yr OK, folks, before you get any other ideas...๐...I wish to make it clear, right up front, that (Chicken/Eagle/Mayo) are actually the names of towns and villages in the Alaska and Yukon Territory...near the Canada-US border. After recently arriving in Fairbanks from Anchorage (please see one of my previous posts), today, I wished to wrap up my explorations by visiting a few other locales in the heart of Yukon Territory, to the east of Fairbanks. "Chicken" is a tiny Alaska Town 200 miles of east of Fairbanks, with a century of Gold Rush history behind it. "Eagle" is another Alaska town, located southeast of Fairbanks, on the bank of the famous Yukon River that gave name to this region (you'll see this river in many of my pictures below). Finally, "Mayo" is a village in Yukon, Canada, also associated with Gold discoveries in the Yukon Territory, and named after an explorer and settler called "Alfred Mayo". Please find 20 images from my trip, as I depart from the Dawson City Airport (CYDA) in Yukon (Canada), situated along the equally famous Klondike River (seen soon after I'm airborne), that gave its name to the Klondike Gold Rush, and closer to home, also named, in the local grocer's freezer, the (delicious) Klondike brand "Chocolate Covered Vanilla Ice Cream" bars...๐...that I occasionallyย pick up during my visits to the store. And, surely, manyย of us would recall that famous (or infamous...depending on how one looks at it...) commercial "What would you do for a Klondike Bar"...Oh boy...more than 40 years have passed since, and it feels like justย yesterday...๐...never thought I would be visiting that famous Klondike River one day in the SIM... Anyway, after my exploration of this fascinating and historic region, and ruminating about the thousands and thousands of dreamers and explorers that had once set off for the Yukon destinations, such as Dawson City,ย in search of Gold, leavingย behind, as proof of their adventures, only today's ghost towns where time has stood still, .... Iย have finally returned back to the Dawson City Airport (see the last couple of images). MSFS has done a nice job of the scenery around here...and has filled a void that was apparent in the earlier SIMs... Thanks for viewing...!
