September 15, 20241 yr I am in the process of installing a bunch of FS9 scenery for PNG. However, one of the scenery packages that I need is the terrain mesh and landclass for PNG. I have no idea what the file name(s) is. If anyone has it, I would certainly appreciate your sharing it with me. The URL site that had that package is no longer active. Thank you. Harry
September 16, 20241 yr Presumably you've tried entering the non-functional URL into the WayBack Machine?
September 17, 20241 yr Is this the file you are installing? A Landclass file is included there. https://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=45926 Any world-wide terrain mesh should include Papua New Guinea. John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org

The real issue I am having is trying to install the Port Morseby (AYPY) scenery. When I installed it, all I could see was the edge of runway 35 - nothing else except autogen scenery. A friend of mine provided a flattening BGL which enabled me to at least see the runways, however, the airport scenery itself is totally missing. And trees are all over the place, not to mention a couple of misplaced buildings. While the package you mentioned contains AYPY, it did not make any modifications to the airport. Thank you both for your help - I am open to any further suggestions you might have. Best wishes. Harry

Harry The Internet Archive Wayback Machine Wayback Machine (archive.org) is a repository of all sorts of good stuff that has been collected over the years by a dedicated group who seem intent on assuring that (almost) everything that was ever posted on the internet since "the dawn of time" can still be found! It's not foolproof, unfortunately, but is always my first port of call for "retired" web-sites. If the original site was purely html-based, and not running as a front-end for a database, there's a good chance the file you're looking for will be there! Have an idea of the date of the file in question, else you may be up for a lot of digging about. The system isn't "lightning-fast", but give it a few seconds ... good luck 🙂 If you're struggling, post the link in question and an approximate date and I'll look it up for you (if someone else doesn't get to it first)
September 17, 20241 yr Author Guys, the problem has been fixed. I got into the ADE software this morning and did some excludes and low-and-behold, once all of the autogen stuff was gone, the airport scenery came to life. So, my problem has been solved. Thanks, Chris-eve, for the explanation of the Wayback Machine. I will take a look at it today and bookmark it for future reference. I know in the past there have been some scenery packages needed that were no longer available. Don't ask me what they were because I don't remember 🤔. Thank you all for your help and insights. Harry
September 28, 20241 yr Author Once again, I am back asking for some help. In flying around PNG, I made a "horrible mistake." I did a TOP DOWN view and what I saw really freaked me out. All of the shore lines are 90-degree angles. And it only occurs with the PNG scenery. I have realigned my scenery library contents, I deactivated all of my packages for PNG, and I even reinstalled the CAB file for OCEN from disk 4 of FS2004. And nothing I have tried works. Any thoughts or suggestions will certainly be welcomed. Thanks and have a wonderful weekend. Harry
September 28, 20241 yr Are you sure you've got the default scenery enabled in your scenery library ... not sure if PNG comes under Asia, Oceania or Australia. If those are all "ticked" you're stuck with disabling the various add-on packages until the problem disappears. Just occasionally FS2004 does "lose the plot" and can "forget" to load all the sceneries ... waiting a short while will often see the problem resolve itself, else I've read that changing 'planes (temporarily) can resolve the issue by causing FS to reload everything, but that's not ideal! It may simply be a buffering issue ... lots of scenery detail and not enough video memory 😞 Maybe you can post flight/positioning details so's someone else can double check? Does it happen in all aircraft? Edited September 28, 20241 yr by chris_eve afterthought
September 28, 20241 yr Author Chris_eve, you are a genius!!! Bottom line - the shore lines are fixed. Now for the details - According to the real-world information, PNG is part of the Oceania region. In FS9, when you select Port Moresby (AYPY), PNG, the FS9 airport data shows the COUNTRY/REGION as Papua New Guinea. Now, here is the coup-de-grace - I discovered through trial-and-error that it is the ASIA default scenery that controls the shore lines for PGN (I don't known what else in PNG it controls.) I did not have that scenery activated as I have never flown in Asia - surprise, surprise. By the way, I discovered that by working though all of your suggestions. Thanks again, my friend. Best wishes. Harry

Harry Excellent ... glad you found it 🙂 I had a similar scenario just a couple of weeks ago ... hadn't realised Eastern Europe was so far west in FS2004 😉 As for what else is covered where in PNG, if one feature is "in Asia" the rest of that immediate area will be the same. That's not to say the whole of PNG is in "FS2004's Asia". The geographic demarcations are quite coarse. If you use LWMViewer to "Follow FS2004" it'll give you the filenames of the default sceneries under the 'plane. You can then do a quick search in your Scenery folders to find where the files are actually stored.

Thanks for the info on LWMViewer however. I will consider that in the days ahead. And I strongly suspect what you said about Asia scenery covering most if not all of PNG area is absolutely correct. After all - what's good for the goose and good for the gander 😀 Best wishes. Harry
September 29, 20241 yr Author Chris_eve, I had another airport in PNG that I eventually deactivated due to gross corruption. It had a line of ships/docks/sea planes, etc. adjacent to the airport which is fine with the exception they were all about a mile or so inland 😒. I even tried to exclude the ships, but wasn't successful. Last night, I woke up thinking about the scenery and began wondering if the scenery would still be corrupt having activated ASIA? I got up early, reactivated the airport, and low-and-behold, the ships/docks/sea planes were all in the water where they belonged. Now I am a real happy camper 😄😄. Just wanted to pass that on. Hope your weekend is going great. Have a great week. Harry
