September 29, 20241 yr Hi All, I'm trying to decide what TV or monitor to upgrade my 3 x 50" Hisense TV's to. I've been looking at the LG C4 48". The TV's are clearly a great item, however I'm mindful of how low FPS (i.e. 30 FPS) looks on an OLED monitor vs on an LCD. With the near instant fresh rate of an OLED, I'm guessing that it looks a little choppier. I'm thinking that this may be overcome somewhat by utilizing a little motion smoothing (soap opera effect), however for the cost of the C4, I'm trying to weigh up if I'm spending too much money on a monitor that might actually not be the best fit for MSFS. I'm working on a 30 FPS average as I can maintain that at 4k with my setup (details in sig). Anybody running a larger (32+ greater) OLED who can comment on what it looks like at lower FPS? Cheers Kael Oswald 9950X3D/ 64GB DDR5 6200 @ CL30 / Custom Water Loop / RTX 5090 / 3 x 48" LG C4 OLEDs
September 29, 20241 yr Well if you are going to use a 4KTV as a display for MSFS locked at 30fps, make sure the TV has excellent frame interpolation. I used a Samsung for about 4 years and its built in "Judder Reduction" setting in the TV's menu turned my 30fps to a smooth 60fps on screen. I'm reluctantly giving that setup up because the TV was needed/wanted elsewhere in the house so I'm getting a Pimax Crystal light instead. But your RTX 4090 will give you 60fps anyway. Right? Intel Core i9-10900K at 5.2GHz, Corsair H115i PRO, ASUS MAXIMUS XII HERO Z490, G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 15-16-16-36, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090, SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB x 3, Corsair HX Series HX1000 Watt PSU, Pimax Crystal LIght.
September 29, 20241 yr I've used TV frame interpolation with Lossless Scaling App and it does work combined. Might take some tweaking. Thanks for the reply mate - much appreciated. Given I'm pushing 4k x 3 screens aiming for 30 FPS is the most realistic setting. On my outgoing Hisense I've been using motion interpolation and it does make a big difference - My fear is that going from LCD to OLED will make the "judder" even more obvious due to the instant response time of the OLED vs the LCD. I was holding off on this purchase has I just picked up a Crystal Light last week. I tested the Crystal Light for a few days and decided to send it back - So now I'm hunting for 3 TVs again! Unfortunately lossless scaling and NVIDIA Frame Generation don't work across multiple monitors so you can have wonderfully smooth frames, but only one the main monitor, not the two side windows :(. September 30, 20241 yr OK, I see. I hope I have better luck with the crystal light. Still I think Frame interpolation is still your best beat. Since its independent of the GPU. If you can get the GPU to send 30fps at 30hz to all three displays and the displays have good frame interpolation you'll get 60fps on each screen. I don't know about anything about OLED except better colours and blacks. I cant see instance response time making any difference since if you are using Frame interpolation each frame has to wit its turn anyway. I use TrackIR5 on one 55" with the IR camera mounted behind me. It was great. The crystal light will need to be far far better then the Samsung Odyssey plus I tried a few years ago to beat it. Sometime you just have to take the plunge and buy the hardware to see if it meets your expectations. Make sure you can return it. If it doesn't. I prefer costco myself.
