aicarri1 aircraft carrier problem:

Recommended Posts

I have installed aicarri1.zip into FSX and have not been able to see any ships with the exception of those already included in the FSX default setup.I did move the trafficcarriers1.bgl into the SceneryWorldScenery folder.I also saw the ribbon advance upon FSX startup telling me that the new file was being recognized.Either I am just not able to locate them, or they are not there. I have searched for the groups out of the Norfolk, Va NAS, San Francisco, Ca. and Puget Sound area.I do have Ultimate Traffic Installed, as well as Genesis Landclass and Mesh, and Ultimate Terrain if that makes any difference.Aircraft radar screens do not show the AI ships, nor do they show up in FlightSim Commander if that is applicable.I have SP2 installed (freeware) without the acceleration package.I am really enjoying f14.zip and would love to be able to locate this aircraft on one of these ships.Any suggestions would be appreciated.Respectfully:RTHEdit: I really neglected to ask the obvious I guess. Can anyone give me the coordinates for any of the fleet locations in this package. Thanks:RTHASUS P5N-E-SLI MotherboardIntel E6600 Core2 Duo CPUZalman CNPS7700-CU RT CPU Fam4 GB KST DII800 MemoryWinXP ProNVIDIA VCG8800GTX 768MB Primary Video Graphics Card21

Are the Ultimate Traffic BGL's FSX format or are they, like the WOAIBGL's, FS9 format ( compiled with TTools )?If they aree FS9 format BGLs then any FSX format traffic fiples such as the aicarriersfiles will be disabled along with the default FSX traffic.Other than that, I don't know why you're not seeing the ships. They won't show on the "AI radar" screen, ever, but if you havethe FSX Traffic Toolbox installed they will show on the list ofAI in the Exploerer window if you uncheck the "show aircraft only" box. Also, be aware that the ships could be anywhere along there coursewhen you fly into the area. You should use the Google Earth files that camewith that package to see the actual sailing routes and then plan a flightalong the ships course.Another alternative created by the same author is the "aicarriers2r2"pacakge that allows you to dynamically create a fleet of various configurationswhile in free flight. You can place that fleet directly below you,0r 5 miles or 10 miles in front of you through the use of a dropdownmenu under "Addons".This way you don't needd to depend on schedules or preplanned routes. Uhhh, which one is that, I use the version 2 for Acceleration, and there is no editing, etc, you just install it and use the menu addon thing to place ships:aicarriers2r2.zip here @ avsim

Thanks loads Guys:aicarriers2r2.zip did the trick.I wish they did have functioning graphics like some of the FS9 third party offerings, particularly Catapult barriers, but at least it gives us something half-way realistic in the way of a place to take-off and land on carriers in FSX. I really like the F14 by Steve Hinson (Thanks Steve) and would recommend it to anyone interested in the carrier routine. I hope a few more aircraft of this type show up as time goes on (F18 Super Hornets in particular).I have no idea why the earlier version did not show up assuming that I was looking in the correct locations, however, your suggestions leads to another question.I installed the FSX SDK package (Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK in the Microsoft Games folder).I then edited my dll.xml as instructed by the Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK link, http://www.fs-seine-75.com/SDK/Environment...%20Toolbox.html.If I understand correctly, I should now have a "Tools" option in the FSX toolbar menu at the top of my windowed display. I don't see it. I can look in my Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK>SDK>Environment Kit>Trafficbox SDK>fs10BoatTypes.csv file but I did not find the fleets or carriers listed there. Thanks again:RTH

Double check that the path statement is correct in the dll.xml file.I use the actual entire path name with drive, etc just to be sure. The example assumes that the SDK is installed in the same "Programs"directory as FSX. Other than that, I don't know why you're not seeing the Traffic Toolboxin the menu. Paul

Hello Paul:My problem was too simple for a dummy relative to the Traffic Toolbox menu display.I was useing the incorrect version of the SDK installation. Went with the SP2 version and she works fine. There is a web site which offers downloads for each FSX version.I still don't see the carriers from aicarri1.zip. The installation is so simple that I don't see how there could be a mistake there. Thanks to the updated version which works fine, aicarrier2r2, I guess that is academic, but it would be nice to have moving carriers.Happy flying:RTH

After you select the type and distance forplacement go back to the menu and select "Forward" to start them sailing. You can also go back to the menu and cause them to turn if necessary. As for the aicarriers1, I don't know what the problem could be otherthan the things I previously pointed out.You might go to Lamont Clark's web site and get his AI Boat Utilityand try creating your own fleets and routes using. I've done thatas well as useing the aicarriers1 and 2r2 packages. The AI Boat Utilityis easy to use and you will have carriers where you want them sailing the routes you develop. Paul
