Aerosoft sound system error & cdt

Recommended Posts

Hello pilots

I bought and installed aerosoft crj professional yesterday. When I select the aircraft in flightsimulator I get the message: sound initialisation failed and then a cdt. I read a message about this in Aerosoft forum and downloaded the tool AsVersioninfo_104 and ran it. I got the following info:

Microsoft XAudio2
-----------------
XAudio2_9.dll not found
XAudio2_8.dll not found
XAudio2_7.dll found: 9.29 (DXSDK_JUN10.100602-0421)

XAudio2_5.dll found: 9.27 (DXSDK_AUG09.090904-1620)
XAudio2_4.dll found: 9.26 (DXSDK_MAR09.090316-1354)

XAudio2_0.dll found: 9.22 (DXSDK_MAR08.080305-1539)

What else should I do. I am using P3D 4.5 current hotfix.
Please help me.

Julio

Hi Julio,

What version of Windows are you running ?

I assume a current Windows 10+ install would have both XAudio2_8.dll & XAudio2_9.dll, given you don't.. would your OS be Windows 7 ?

The dlls themselves would be in,

  • C:\Windows\System32\
  • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
  • C:\Windows\WinSxS\

Is the aircraft up to date ? e.g. Current version: 2.5.0.0 via ASUpdater (from the Aerosoft webpage).

Otherwise... does the aircraft use a ASC.dll ? (being Aerosoft's sound dll).

I do have 2 x Aerosoft aircraft and both suffered from CTD due to issues with the ASC.dll version that came with the installers.

Once I'd replaced the ASC.dll with an updated version all was good.

For reference the ASC.dll version I'd downloaded from Aerosoft (at the time) was file version 3.0.7.0 with a copyright date of 2016 -2020.

The 2 aircraft I have are the Twotter and the Catalina, the Twotter is fantastic, I've even been able to add freezing rain icing which gradually makes the controls stiffer until they totally freeze.

The Catalina is Ok but I did have to fix a lot to get it up to scratch and is not in the same class as the Twotter.

The Twotter.

Hi Rogen
First of all, thank you for the information. Yes I use windows 7 professional and the CR is the current version 2.5.0.6. I can't update to version 10 because I use some programs that only run on windows 7. How should I proceed??? Can you solve my problem???

Best regards
Julio

  • 2 weeks later...

I assume that both sound files XAudio2_9.dll and XAudio2_8.dll are required when loading the CRJ. These are not available in Windows 7. Is it possible to change the settings of the CRJ so that these files are not used? The error message at the beginning says that it is a sound problem.

You're running a Windows version that has been out of support for almost 5 years now.

As Luke says, Windows 7 is well and truely out of support, but that aside...

It's unlikely you're going to get around the issue as it is probable the current version on the aircraft's dlls have been compiled on a Windows 10 machine (which would have used Windows 10 dll references).

As to if there is anything you can try... I circle back to... does the aircraft use a ASC.dll ? (being Aerosoft's sound dll).

If so you might want to try renaming it and dropping in a copy of the ASC.dll from a known working Aerosoft aircraft.

Otherwise, what programs are you using that run on Windows 7 only?

You might have to consider a replacement workstation while keeping the older Windows 7 machine around for your problematic programs.

Rogen your suggestion was SuperB. I have another Aerosoft airplane that uses the ASC.dll. I copied that and had to rename it: ASCRJ Pro.dll. Now the CRJ is working. Thanks for the help. All the best for you.

All of them back. I can load the CRJ in P3D but it does not work properly. I need to update to windows 10 for it to work properly.

Do I have to completely reinstall everything when I do the update? Airplanes and airports??? I also have some from Milton Shupe that work at the moment.

I assume you mean an update of Windows 7 to Windows 10/11 ?

For myself I had no real issues via an inplace update from Windows 7 to 10 (and I'd been using Windows 7 x64 since it's release).

I perfomed an image based backup as a first step just in case I needed it.

Cleaned up the many files, applications, devices and temp data I'd accumulated over the years of migrations to new hardware.

Perfomed another image based backup of the now cleaned machine, then updated, took a while but all went pretty smoothly.

Post update there were a couple of applications that were problematic under Windows 10 and I ended up removing (as there were no Win10 updates for them), nothing I couldn't live without though, plus a number of apps needed updating to properly support Windows 10 (i.e. my backup software, my ram disk, antivirus, plus a few others)

All in all there was no issue with P3D related items, everything just worked, not saying such would be the case for yourself though - for example I've never heard of Milton Shupe addins.

Windows 11 might be a different kettle of fish though and you might want to google and research the Win 10/11 inplace update requirements, processes and gotchas, as well as creating a list of apps for any subsequent app update needs, processes and costs, yes there can be costs e.g. I had to re-purchase my Macurium backup software for Windows 10, Stardock's Start10 and Fences and my Ramdisk software, plus a few other items as well.

Cheers

Hello Rogen
thank you very much for the detailed information. I will consider which is the right way for me. I'm also thinking about option 2: buying a new PC with more power.
Thank you for taking the time to help me.
Kind Regards
Julio
