October 18, 20241 yr Author I've posted another thread here https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/650988-crystal-light-virtual-image-distance-is-1-metre-3-4/ where I can confirm that: The Virtual Image Distance of the Pimax Crystal Light is indeed 1 metre (3' 4" ). At last confirmed by Pimax Support! This is different to many/most other popular headsets. That VR Wave is now aware of the above and have made a change to their website in the last few days: HonsVR are aware and will, if requested, make the necessary adjustment to your distance prescription - but their website maybe open to misinterpretation and rely on you knowing to ask. They may well check when an order is placed, but I don't know for sure. Best double check when you order. VR Optician are aware and their website makes it more likely that the correct prescription is used. If you put in your distance prescription, they will adjust it and if you put in your intermediate prescription, they double check that prescription works for you with the headset and make lenses to the values you've entered I DON'T KNOW WHAT ANY OTHER SUPPLIERS ARE AWARE OF OR DO. My advice is, in all cases, double check with their order assistance teams to ensure that the correct lens values are made for you. My view is that the Virtual Image distance should be stated in the Pimax Crystal Light specs and on their Website. It would clear a lot of confusion - and probably lead to fewer returns for Pimax. Maybe @Calvin-Pimax could take note and feed back the suggestion? October 21, 20241 yr Got it. I’ll ask the team to update this information, including the FAQ section. This info is also important for the upcoming product, especially for glasses wearers who may be looking for prescription inserts.
October 24, 20241 yr Author I think the message is getting through. With Mark/Simhanger's help, we have got a number of the VR corrective lens suppliers to change or clarify their advice and web sites to make it more certain that the correct lens strengths are specified and supplied for this headset. Hopefully that will lower the number of disappointed users and/or returns to the makers. This is a great headset - it would be a pity to taint its reputation simply by a bit of bad communication. Here's Simhanger's Youtube video on the subject: How are you getting on within Pimax ref clarifying the Virtual Image distance on the Pimax website, @Calvin-Pimax ? October 30, 20241 yr Author I've posted an update on the other thread but, for good measure thought I would post it here too. So - great progress on getting the message out to users - and suppliers - that should ensure a reduction in needless disappointment, unfounded hits on reputations and higher returns to suppliers of corrective lenses and/or headsets to boot: Simhanger has done a great video (above) explaining the issue Three out of the four main lens suppliers have now changed their websites to reduce any ambiguity leading to the wrong prescription being used (and one of those three didn't actually know of the issue until Simhanger raised it with them). VR Optician; HonsVR and VR-Wave all know about the issue and have website/helpdesk information relating to ordering. I remain unclear of the situation of the fourth supplier that I looked at, VR-Rock. There is no information on their website or FAQ's and thus I don't know if they are yet aware or not of the 1 metre virtual image distance. I've dropped them a mail to check with/inform them but have had, as of yet, no response. Pimax have agreed that this needs flagging to glasses wearers to avoid confusion/potential disappointment and have attached Simhanger's video to a PR flyer they've just issued The Pimax Discord channel also has now got an additional section relating to corrective lenses, again featuring Simhanger's video And my 1 metre corrective lenses arrived from VR-Optician and I have just had the most magnificent of VR multiplayer flights with the Pimax Crystal Light. Knockout...simply knockout... Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset
November 1, 20241 yr Author I checked again with VR-Rock (I hadn't had a reply to my helpdesk query) and, based on a conversation on their live on-line help desk, I wasn't entirely convinced that they were fully aware of the difference between the Crystal Light and many/most other headsets. I've flagged this with Pimax who are going to contact them directly and clarify the virtual image distance specification of these particular headsets with them. So, hopefully, that will be one less chance of folks getting the wrong corrective lenses. 🙂 Edited November 1, 20241 yr by AJZip Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset
