Help!Flickering is back after installing Tileproxy

Recommended Posts

I installed Tileproxy today and did not check to not change my FS.cfg.I really like Tileproxy and thank Ed for making it easy to use. However, now flying without running Tileproxy I have a lot of flickering.I cannot remember what my original settings were.I saved my cfg but I may not have saved it before Tileproxy changed it. Does it have something to do with antialiasing? Thanks,Ron

Open your FSX.cfg and look for the MipBias entry under the display device section:[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS.0]MipBias=6Set it lower at say:MipBias=4or even try disabling it with a "#" sign:#MipBias=6The MipBias sharpens the ground textures but can cause flickering if set to high.

I too had similar problems after installing Tile proxy. However I failed to get Tile proxy working giving repeatedly 'giving up' message and then I too gave up! Possibly my ADSL line was slow to undertake the speeds this program expects. Thereafter when I started the FSX I noticed a sudden drop in the frame rates and saw some generalized blurry shimmering effects and autogen trees / buildings being stretched upwards as straight lines. I was forced to uninstalled and make a complete reinstall of the FSX --> Sp1 --> Acceleration all over again. Now again back to normal. I am now scarred to use tile proxy again!RegardsShri

That did the trick, but I followed someone else's advice and just deleted it.I think I will try a lower setting. Is this setting just for Tileproxy?I assume it sharpens FS regular scenery?I don't know if I had it prior to Tileptoxy. Also I see all the files in the cache folder. Is there a reason not to delete them or do they speedup load time? Thanks,Ron

The Cache folders contain textures you have downloaded previously for the areas you've already flown. Reloading flights in these areas is therefore a bit faster because many of the areas textures are there already. New areas you fly will have to download fresh thus increasing their initial load times.

Is there a way to download textures say for a set area (let's say Tampa area) before I leave for work in the morning, then when I come home they're all downloaded and ready to start up FSX? Or does it really make any difference? Thanks in advance

TileProxy streams ground textures as you fly, it doesnot create "permanent" photo real scenery. So,if you load a flight at Tampa, yes TP will download the textures for the surrounding area, but only the immediate area around the aircraft in decreasing rings of resolution levels. You'll still have to fly out of the area while tiles resume downloading as you fly. Since it only takes 5-15 minutes to load an initial flight anyway, you don't really gain much by doing it well ahead of time. Now, If you'd like to create PERMANENT photo real scenery around the entire area you can do that with "FS Earth Tiles" available at: http://www.fspassengers.com/forum/read.php...4634#reply_5775
