Corrupted installation.

Featured Replies

I really need some advice here. After months of reconfiguring MSFS2020 on a new PC the game started to become unresponsive and buggy in past week or so. Finally, yesterday it became totally unresponsive. There was no recent changes to the community folder and everything was on my C Drive, an Integral 2TB NVMe. I ran checks on my PC and everything appears to be fine. But, to be absolutely certain, I did a full clean Windows 11 re-installation.

Because I have a slow internet connection the game was almost 24 hrs downloading and installing. The installation hung twice during the massive download. I know this because disk writing stopped, networking activity stopped and task manager showed  no activity. In both cases I had to close the program and  start up again.

Finally today , when I ran the program  it was obvious to me the installation is corrupt. There is nothing in Profile tab, nothing on the Settings tab, the World Map is blank and aircraft are only partially rendered. Please see links below.

I am so fed up with this now. This must be the fourth or fifth time I've reinstalled this game only to end up back here again.

I'm so heavily invested in this game I have no choice but to keep trying to resolve this so I really need some advice, if available.

BTW, I've ran a scan on my C drive with CrystalDisk and the report is perfect.

Thank you for reading.

Not sure it helps but did you try to repair and/reset 2020 through Win —> settings—> apps —> MSFS2020 options?

This has actually worked for me in the past. Always worth a try. Also empty community file before and after.

I have tried this to no avail. It seems like the entire installation is missing crucial files etc. I'll just have to try again. MSFS2024 is not an option for me due to poor Internet speeds. I briefly revisited X-plane 12 this evening but that just doesn't cut it compared to MSFS. Thank you.

These days i see reports that even 2020 servers are hammered affected by 2024 streaming, so with an anyway low bandwidth probably a bad time to do a full install and download again. But IIRC there are ways to copy the base content (those big gigabyte) away onto another drive or just folder, then uninstall 2020 and when reinstalling you basically exit installer once the destination folder was created, copy the previous gigabyte folder back, restart msfs2020 which should realize data is there and may save you from downloading all those gab again.

caveat though is that you may really copy past a corrupt file here so it does not cure your problem. But you may just copy parts back and try to find out whether the borked parts are redownloaded again from the server
