December 11, 20241 yr So, we have the first Update for MSFS2024 since its initial launch in Nov. 19. The list of fixes is so long...🙂...that I stopped reading...after the first segment, but I will examine it more later. The bottom line is what changed/improved for me in MSFS2024/Xbox...because I had many airplanes (except for the airliners, of course) ...already flying fine for me...in the launch (FS2024) version. Regarding specifically aircraft, which is my primary interest in the SIM, I had previously (mildly) complained...🙂...e.g., why do my beloved PMDG 736 and Asobo 787 that were flying well for me previously in MSFS2020, have to be now "Streamed In"...? Oh well...Now after this update all aircraft, in our hangar, small and big, GA and airliner, have been rendered "disabled" to start with, so, the user can choose to selectively "enable" what's of interest, besides, of course, the base contents. BTW, this is true only for the so-called "safe mode" of starting the SIM, and, on my Xbox, I've started only in the "safe mode", because the other "continue (normally) mode" didn't go anywhere for me on the Xbox (please note, though, that your PC experience may differ). So, after watching the characters of the opening video sequence about 10+ times (with its impressive planes and people...🙂...and, btw, I don't know why my Xbox iniBuilds A330 cannot lift off majestically like that KLM A330 shown in the video...🙂...), while the loading package for me remained stuck at 0% on the progress bar, I was forced to switch to the "safe mode" which loaded quickly enough. In the safe mode, all aircraft (and some scenery and airports) always start "disabled" even though you'd enabled them the last time. Anyway, for this post, to test the simple basics in my Xbox, I have (manually) enabled just 2 items in my Library: The "AH/Asobo B707-300", an airplane, I've flown a few times in MSFS2020, but never in MSFS2024. And the (handcrafted?) scenery for my hometown airport "(KORD/O'Hare)", with PG set to "off" (Sorry, PG "on" yields unpalatable scenery rendition for me around the big airports). I do realize, with PG "off", the Chicago O'Hare vicinity surely does not look like what I've come to know of it during the 25+ years I've lived here...🙂, but at least, it does not have that "apocalyptic" appearance with melted and pyramidal buildings and structures etc. So, Conclusion # [1]: This simple B707 SIM a/c flew remarkably well for me today, better than even in MSFS2020. I was able to conduct a complete circuit lifting off westward from Rwy 28R (i.e., inland; away from the Lake), and then manually perform a gentle turn to catch the ILS signals for Rwy 10L, in the reverse direction (see below my external and internal shots and also the EFB). Please note, instead of any INS CDUs, this simplified version of the 707, has a basic GPS unit, but I cannot still activate any (ILS) approaches on it. I can load the "PROCEDURE", but nothing happens when I try to enable GPS navigation (with NAV mode set on the aircraft's (pedestal) Autopilot panel), so, here, a manual turn was required to catch the ILS signals to Rwy 10L. Nonetheless, the (LOC/GS) Annunciator indicators (see cockpit close-up shots) very satisfactorily (for this virtual aviator...🙂...) turned from amber to green, in due course, during the final approach. The aircraft also followed the glidepath trustfully right to the threshold of the runway (see my concluding screenshots), for a happy landing...🙂... Hope you enjoy this collection of images from my short trip today. And please ignore, for now, the technical deficiencies in the fidelity of this 707 SIM rendition, but, instead, I hope your mind would wander to the fact that, "The Boeing 707 is considered a legendary airplane, often credited as the aircraft that ushered in the "jet age" of commercial air travel, revolutionizing long-distance flying with its design as the first successful commercial passenger jetliner; making it a landmark in aviation history..." and so on... So, until a better version appears for us in MSFS, for now, this is all we have got, especially if you are an enthusiast of this classic...🙂...as I myself am... Conclusion # [2]: If you are an airliner aviator in the SIM, as I would like to consider myself...🙂..., I would say MSFS2024 is not ready for you yet. So, stay tuned regarding progress in the SIM for your own airliners and a/c of interest; and then judge for yourself if you might like to try it (maybe, alongside your MSFS020), or not. Here, I'm flying MSFS2024 Game Pass (Standard Edition) only, and my original plan to purchase the Premium Deluxe Edition (same as what I'd in MSFS2020) for this Christmas...already indirectly so hinted towards the higher authorities in the family...🙂...will probably stay on hold, until the SIM matures further to my liking and interest... Thanks for viewing...! And happy flying with whatever SIM you're currently flying....as long as you're having fun for yourself...after all is that not what counts most for each of us...? This Christmas being just around the corner, I don't think I'll have the gift of outright purchase rights of MSFS2024 under the tree ...🙂... But, meanwhile, the Game Pass (Standard Edition) of MSFS2024 will keep me busy for a while...I think ...
