(FS24) MSFS/Asobo B737 MAX - Up and around London Heathrow..

Featured Replies

Even if you've not (yet) migrated to FS2024 (for good reasons of your own), nor are currently in the dual MSFS mode...🙂..., you might know that MSFS/Asobo had long touted a Boeing 737 MAX 8, among the default aircraft set for MSFS2024, in the launch videos. This is an aircraft type of much interest to me. In fact, just a few months ago, for my trip from Chicago to Orlando, I'd deliberately chosen an (outgoing) flight leg with United in their 737 MAX 9, in lieu of an A320, that the (UAL) Reservation Tool was trying to corner me into, and I beat the system...🙂...That was my first ever flight in a 737 MAX. It was a nice flight, though not feeling much different from a (regular) 737 NG. The only feature that struck me was the (excellent) seatback entertainment screen, available on command, at the fingertip of every individual passenger, something that I might expect only in a transoceanic long-haul airliner, but not in domestic travel. If I recall correctly, I watched Dune (or was it Dune: Part Two) from the ample film selection (until then, having long stayed clear of the freeware (sci-fi) Dune offer in the MSFS Marketplace...🙂...). I also viewed, to my heart's content, images of the (RW) MAX 9 in flight, from all perspectives and angles (similar to what you might see below in my (virtual) images...🙂...), using the very capable Camera feed to the same seatback screen.

I had flown this Asobo 737 MAX, the first time, exactly on Nov. 20, the day after MSFS2024 was released (the 737 MAX was my first a/c foray into MSFS2024 after installation). I also recall well, on that tumultuous first day (Nov. 19) of the release, after a brief perusal of the (hyperactive) Forum posts here....🙂..., I'd decided to take a long walk in the (local) Park instead...good for the soul and mind, I thought, until things settled down a bit...🙂...And it certainly did soon enough. Anyway, Asobo rendition of the 737 MAX 8 in MSFS2024 has been met with somewhat lukewarm reception, and (seemingly) widespread criticism from the community.

[My own conclusion after my 2nd flight with this MAX 8: If you're already enjoying the iFly 737 MAX (one of the finest MAXs, I think, ever rendered in the SIM for us), you're not missing anything here. In fact, when the iFly MAX becomes available in the MSFS2024 Marketplace, assuming MSFS/Asobo (eventually someday) decide to remove the perpetual padlocks...🙂... (and the "Coming Soon" banner) from the MSFS2024 Marketplace, I would love to get that airplane for myself. With this Asobo 737 Max, there have been clearly some issues been reported, including the auto-tuning (or lack thereof) of ILS frequency for landing, that I ran into, and where I wasted a lot of time today, until, following an on-line tip, I'd to manually set the ILS frequency (110.30 of EGLL Rwy 9L) on the Pedestal Radios. Thereafter, the LOC/GS captures worked well for me.]

I've been meaning to take this 737 MAX for a 2nd test flight, after I recently caught a member post here with a few (nice) screenshots of the airplane, also featuring a dangerous (and unexpected) encounter with an Alaska Grizzly Bear...🙂...on the taxiways of Los Angeles Airport...! So, here we go, as I take a small circuit up and around to the west of the London Heathrow region (see the EFB Map layout in shot #2). Please note that I'd to specifically "Enable" the GAYA EGLL Airport Scenery, from the library, for this flight, which automatically disabled and superseded the default (Asobo) EGLL version.

In the RW, I've transited through Heathrow twice, both times in BA 777s, and I especially recall one of those 2 occasions because that was shortly after the Queen Elizabeth II had just officially opened the (modern) Terminal 5 (T5) at London Heathrow Airport in 2008, to a great deal of fanfare...🙂...Easy to remember T5 because at (local) O'Hare too, Terminal 5 is the (primary) international terminal. I also recall I'd made use of the (on-site) SkyTeam Lounge facilities in Heathrow on that occasion, thanks to a complementary access pass (thoughtfully) given to me by my better-half...🙂...So, after a (rare and refreshing) layover shower in the facilities of the lounge, I had indulged (and relaxed) myself with a glass of wine and snacks in the (impressive) Bar area...while catching glimpses of the preponderance of BA airliners (small and big) sauntering around the airport aprons...Good memories indeed...

For this post, I've included, below, a few (cabin) screenshots of the abject luxury available within this 737 MAX BBJ, so that you'll not miss home...🙂...full size beds, spacious bathrooms with walk-in shower, and plenty of (private) lounging areas with smart TVs affixed to the walls...to one of which TVs I could easily connect my Xbox Console...🙂...and I will be all set to start a MSFS2024 flight of my choice, while travelling along at ~35,000 ft cruise altitude. I liked best the (exclusive) private space recliner sofa (see my last shot below), ideal for reading the PC Pilot magazine (just picked up a copy from the local bookstore ...🙂...featuring an in-depth review article about MSFS2024, but I already know more from around here) ...as I would await later for some (world-class) cuisine in the (nice) dining area...served on fine Chinaware, complete with (real) silverware...enough already with those plastic cutleries and the proverbial choice of "Veg" or "Non-Veg" on the menu...🙂...

Notice also the star-studded fake-sky ceiling e.g., above the walk-in shower area...nice... (the last time I'd encountered such a fake sky was in Las Vegas, when I'd stayed in the Paris Las Vegas Hotel...). BTW, I've always wondered why the rest rooms of airplanes (especially those on the big airliners) have to be so small...hardly enough standing room to close the latch behind you, and if you stretch your arms, you'll surely touch the walls...🙂...but who is listening to this sardine-class traveler...? Anyway, I (dared to) ask on-line, and here is the AI Overview response I got:

"Airplane bathrooms are small because airlines prioritize maximizing passenger space to fit more seats on the plane, which translates to more revenue, meaning that bathroom size is minimized to allow for additional seating and optimize profitability; essentially, "space is money" on an aircraft, and a bathroom doesn't generate any income."...So, I guess, in the airline industry, money talks...not (basic) creature comfort...Oh well...

Hope you enjoy this collection of images of the (Asobo) 737 MAX, flying here, at the command of yours truly, over a short stretch of the pretty English countryside. Lifting off westward from Rwy 27R/EGLL, I've activated [LNAV] and [LVL CHG], promptly after Gears Up...🙂...and after my brief (aerial) tour, I have landed back on ILS Rwy 9L/EGLL...without any apparent issues in the SIM...thus completing a full flight with this 737 MAX... for the first time...It wasn't too bad...

Thanks for viewing...!
