February 17, 20251 yr Howdy all ya'll, old VR flight simmer here, started 3 decades ago in 1995 on the Forte VFX-1. So first of all my PC, it's a 14900Ks with 64GB DDR5 and 2TB 990pro SSD, I play both DCS World and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020/24 equally I just managed to sell both my rtx3090 and VARJO AERO for an excellent price. Now the questions, first the GPU, is an used 4090 for $2,000 a good choice? Or should I splurge a whopping $3,500 for a brand new rtx5090 suprim liquid? But the most important one, should I just buy a Somnium VR1, since they started shipping? Or wait next month to get a MeganeX Superlight 8K instead? Lastly and this might be off topic but since we're here, which of the combos (HMD/GPU) above would be ALSO good to play Hot dogs, horseshoes & hand grenades (h3vr) in addition to flight sims? Thanks everyone, stay safe! PS:I already have and happily use 4 Lighthouse 2.0 Basestations, I do not like markerless inside out tracking.

I was thinking about MeganeX too, actually mentioned it first here: but, coming from a HP Reverb G2, I got the Pimax Crystal Light instead and am very happy with it. already fps went down from ca. 55 fps to 45 fps, and the Megane's higher resolution would clearly be a steep dive in fps. but why not, go ahead with the MeganeX, we would all love to hear how it performs with MSFS 2024. you could still reduce resolution to your hearts content, but why get 8K then in the first place? "Or should I splurge a whopping $3,500 for a brand new rtx5090 suprim liquid?" since there is no NVidia FrameGeneration for VR, you are looking at only around 20% fps over the 4090. not enough for me to pay that amount of money. with DLSS4 Quality settings I am enjoying smooth 45 fps in the Pimax (using mostly GA aircraft), at non mega hubs like EGLL and the like. for non-Flightsimulation, leisure games I would get a wireless Quest 3 or Pico 5 Ultra. you won't notice their slightly lower resolution but appreciate the non-cable flexibility. AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.
