What versions should I install

Featured Replies

Reinstalling Lorby si software on to a new win11 pc with  fsx se

I want to reinstall live traffic

But of the versions in the folder which one should I install

Fsx or fsx se

My appdata/ roaming/ Microsoft  shows the folder as fsx but I assumed it would say fsx se as I have not installed the box version

Cheers

Normally, I'd say the _SE version. When you only have FSX Steam Edition installed, that is what the _SE was made for.

The FSX Boxed variant is for either solo Acceleration or the dual install (Accel + Steam Edition in parallel)

I assumed if I only had the steam version installed  the folder should say FSX SE.

I posted the question over on steam fsx and turns out it's normal for the folder to be named fsx

My old pc which had the boxed version of fsx acceleration and Steam fsx created two folders which is normal

This explains why  FFX,  fsx se version did not launch but when I installed the fsx version it works

No, that can't be it. The app doesn't really care about what that folder is called.

When the SE app doesn't even start, but the Boxed does, that is a SimConnect library problem. The SE varaint will not work with the Beat of FSX SE. And normally it doesn't need an extra SimConnect client to be installed, it works out of the box. You are not the only one who ran into this problem recently, but I have no idea what is going on. It is working just fine for me, without any extra tweaks.

SimConnect is not something separate from the simulator. Everything including and beyond FSX SE doesn't have separate installers anymore, it is all built into the sim and the libraries that the client program uses. Only the really old legacy FSX Boxed/Acceleration simconnect clients have separate installers.

I only know that there is trouble with the FSX SE Beta version. On my devel computer, I never installed anything related to SimConnect - and all variants of my addons work with all 9 supported simulators out of the box. I tried it on a laptop too, that had never heard of FSX before, and everything worked out of the box as well.
