April 3, 20251 yr Yes, I know...but hear me out on this one. It's the best £16 I've ever spent on anything sim related. It's a bit weird in 2D...but in VR WOW - it gave me the absolute VR 'this feels real' shivers... Your view might, of course, vary - but personally I'm lost for words...so I won't say any more 😀 Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset

I often play VR multiplayer (MSFS2020) with my brother-in-law and we fly fast jets (such as Heatblur's splendid F14Tomcat, the Just Flight TA1 Hawk, etc.) and WW2 fighters (Flying Iron's Spit, ME109, Fw190) amongst other types and sim models. And I'd sent him a text him about my thoughts on the Cpt Sims He 111. He'd seen a couple of videos on Youtube and his text message answer back to me was 'Meh...'. Clearly not tempted. And he's not easy an easy chap to impress. But, when I reminded him that, if he got it, he could buzz me in his Flying Iron's Spitfire he reluctantly agreed. I spotted him on Discord yesterday evening and gave him a shout out. He'd just bought the He 111 and he was, at that moment, loading it up for the first time. And I heard his reaction when he booted it up in VR. 'Whoah!' 'Oh my goodness!' 'Oh....my.....goodness....!!!' We then had a great couple of low slow multiplayer flights and finished the evening both landing, taxying to adjoining stands and then spending a bit more time looking closer at, and comparing views on, the externals and the internals. Our joint conclusions (and it's not very often we agree on anything! 😀) are: * While possibly not in the same league as the splendid Flying Irons' models in terms of takeoff and flying behaviour accuracy, etc (who knows), it is absolutely in the same league in terms of visual detail, inside and out. It is outstandingly good, in our joint opinion. * It's not 'study level' in terms of all switches, etc, being operable - but the great majority of buttons, knobs and levers do actually work and there are some very nice features I haven't come across on any other sim model. * Because of the positioning of the flight panel (which, incidentally, you can switch off) blocking the default forward view, I think 2-D flying in it is a bit awkward - because it's not so easy to 'look around it' to see your forward view. In VR, it is easy to shift across a bit to see when you need to (eg t/off and landing). And, interestingly, the pilot's seat is unusually wide and I can well imagine that IRL it was designed that the pilot would slide across when necessary to see round the panel. (Additionally, there is a lever mechanism shown - sadly not operable in the sim - that clearly hinges a small section of non-critical dials out of the way again, presumably, for this purpose in the real aircraft. * And, again in VR, the feeling of space...and vulnerability in that all-glass front is difficult to describe. I think that my b-i-l's 'Whoah!' probably sums it up * Sounds are very good and the slow, heavy, feel is palpable Over the next few days I'll try to capture some video clips from our joint flights and, if they are any good, post them here. Anyone else tried it in VR? April 7, 20251 yr Not tried it but the Caribou has a similar wow factor in VR due to the controls hanging down from the roof of the cockpit. You really feel like you are in there. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.
