AAO becomes unresponsive when auto-started with the Sim

Featured Replies

Whenever I choose AAO to be started automatically with MSFS2020, my xTouch Mini invariably becomes unresponsive after a short while and I have to close and manually restart AAO. If I chose not to start AAO automatically, but start it manually after the sim has loaded, I never get this issue. Any ideas?

Not really. Sounds weird.

Check the "Application" menu, make sure that "Force connection to running sim" is OFF.

Tried that. It was already set OFF.

Further investigation. When AAO started with sim, after a while it seems to lose focus and my xTouch mini becomes unresponsive. If I then exit VR and simply bring AAO to the front, it all works fine again for a while. Starting AAO manually, I do not ever have this issue. Any other things I can check?

When the simulator starts AAO it becomes its "child". Maybe something in your sim interferes, makes child processes go inactive? Or is it the PC? because technically you are not interacting with the app - some kind of energy saving mechanism?

Personally, I do it the other way around. I make AAO start the sim - so I don't have trouble with admin privileges etc.

Do you use the Start simulator before connecting? In Application?

Yes.

"Always start as admin" - ON
"Start automatically with the sim" - OFF (check that AAO has been removed from the exe.xml!)
"Connect automatically" - ON (unless I am testing AAO, then I leave it off and do it manually by clicking on the green LED)
"Start simulator before connecting" - ON
....
"Minimize automatically" - ON (the app should not be visible unless you are editing something)
...
"Force Connection to running sim" - OFF (this is important. "Force..." is an emergency setting when nothing else will connect AAO)
