American MD-80 retrement?

I was thinking about this yesterday. I thought I heard that American Airlines was retiring their Super 80 (MD-83's) fleet as of last year and replacing them with more B737-800's? I just looked at KDFW on Flightaware.com, and they're still going strong! Does anyone know the scoop on this?

When I go up to KSTL that's about all I see there...AA MD-8x's and the regional jets they use (CRJ's?).All I know is, the MD's are getting some age on them and AAL's 737-800 fleet keeps getting bigger. I'm more worried about Northwest's DC-9 fleet which is even older, some of them are ex-Republic aircraft!The American MD's are based out of their Dallas hub.What's interesting to me is that American does not fly many MD's out of Miami. The east coast is mostly 737-800's for that size aircraft. Not sure why...but:I surmise that it may be because all of the maintenance staff at DFW and STL are used to working on MD's/DC9's from the TWA days. ??I know for a fact at St. Louis, the mechanic labor force is very used to DC-9/MD-80 series.
