September 8, 2025Sep 8 I just encountered a possible bug, or something at least that causes me great pain.. I had a template which had a wrong assignment (heading increase & decrease was both actually using the decrease script), so I made the correction and went on to save the current config as template again, and selected to overwrite my existing template (already linked to the aircraft). Worked fine for that given session, however on the next simulator start, the template is completely blank. Unfortunately I didn't export the template, so seemingly there's no way to recover it... Or is there anything I can do other than redo the whole thing?
September 8, 2025Sep 8 Author Update: Managed to get back my config and export it now, using the "Apply other config to this aircraft" option. However the overwrite causing the config to go blank still might not be intentional?

September 9, 2025Sep 9 Author I opened the button assignment, changed the script, saved. Then I went Templates > Save current config as template > select previous template > overwrite

Then I went Templates > Save current config as template > select previous template > overwrite Reminder: what you see in AAO, the buttons and axis, are called a "Configuration". This is not a Template. Templates are separate, abstract constructs, mere "blueprints", they don't have any active purpose (unless you link them to configurations). Templates are supposed to contain for example a group of buttons that are the same for all aircraft, and that you just link to every new Configuration to save time. The second purpose of Templates is to make it possible to share Configurations between different computers. Templates are not used to configure aircraft. You never save oder overwrite a Configuration, that happens automatically. So my questions is, how did you edit this separate entity called a "Template"? A Configuration you edit live, while using it. There is nothing else to do, it saves itself automatically (if you are extra cautious, use the hard disk button at the bottom of the AAO main dialog to save the database at this point). Again: this has nothing whatsoever to do with Templates. There are thre ways to edit a Template: 1. Open the Template in offline mode, edit (nothing else to do, it is saved automatically) 2. Use the Edit Template dialog in the menu 3. Load a configuration that was used to create the template, edit it, then save a new template from it (or the same one) 1. is the recommended method (although you need to know what you are doing, because the simulator is not connected in this moment). 2. is the OK method. 3. is not a great idea (IMHO) because it can mess up existing templates. So which way did you take? LORBY-SI
September 11, 2025Sep 11 Author I used this one: 3. Load a configuration that was used to create the template, edit it, then save a new template from it (or the same one) And when I saved the template, I overwritten the previous one. Okay, so I get it that this is not a recommended way, but then how do I solve the situation of for example setting a master configuration on a Fenix 320 IAE aircraft, but then when I switch to a let's say 319, nothing is loaded from AAO. What is the recommended way to link the master configuration? Also, if I want to make a change in the master configuration, do I need to load the original aircraft every time? Sorry to ask these (probably) obvious questions, but this is not really clear to me. I thought templates are there to gap this exact thing. Edited September 11, 2025Sep 11 by decisionheight

Save it as a Template and then link the Template, you did that correctly. I would recommend to split up the templates, into some that won't change for every aircraft, and others that are aircraft specific. Then link as required. 4 hours ago, decisionheight said: if I want to make a change in the master configuration, do I need to load the original aircraft every time? Yes. That's why I do it in offline mode, then I don't need the simulator. I know that editing the templates is not ideal. I am planning to add an option to just load a config or template manually with the sim connected (=bypassing the auto-recognition of the aircraft) like you can in offline mode. As for the issue that you've observed, that is definitely not normal. I know for a fact that some AAO testers are doing this all the time, and nothing bad ever happened. I am also unable to reproduce it on my end. Do you still have the AAO logfile from when this happened? (\AppData\Local\LORBY_SI\LorbyAxisAndOhs...\) LORBY-SI
September 12, 2025Sep 12 Author I don't seem to have those logs anymore, this happened sometime on last weekend if I remember correctly. Is it possible that special characters in the template name caused the issue? I like to put the date or ac registration in the name within brackets, so I can go back to an older one in case I should need it. Anyway, thank you for all the help, I will try to avoid overwriting the templates for now, and I will check out offline mode method next time Edited September 12, 2025Sep 12 by decisionheight
