Issues with wilco A330 performance & AP

Featured Replies

Not sure what is up with it but the plane randomly decides to constraint itself at altitudes when there isn't even any. Trying to force into OP CLIMB is to no avail and it continues to read ALT* on the PFD.

Also the plane is absolutely atrocious at climbing. I am not sure if it is a weight problem but the plane after about 9940ft (its some other really specific number too) drops speed insanely quick and starts pointing up aggressively high to keep it level, and it goes into Alpha Floor mode infinitely.

And one more thing, the vertical speed knob doesn't seem to work in the A330? When I pull it out to try increase/decrease it it starts jumping randomly between numbers like 400, 100, -300 etc.

Really unfortunate, since i want this plane to actually work. Its the only A330 on FSX with decent systems.

You guys' help is much appreciated!!

Hi, my experience with Wilco products has been variable. I had a few of them in my FS2004 days and some of them were reasonably good if I remember correctly, but I purchased their A380 for FSX and it now resides in my virtual boneyard as it had quite a few glitches and there was no attempt made by the developers to correctly replicate the Airbus MCDU/FMC!

Like you I also wanted an A330/340 with functioning Airbus type systems but, being a bit wary of Wilco, I bought the Blackbox product. This was the 'Prologue' version which was meant to receive further updates but, like other stuff produced by Blackbox, the promised updates never happened even as the product remained on sale for many years! This was unfortunate as the aircraft had a lot of nice features and indeed had tremenduous potential if some shortfalls had been addressed. It is however still flyable with most of the main Airbus systems and the MCDU being reasonably well replicated although the MCDU has considerably less functionality than it should. When I want to fly an Airbus with accurate systems replicating the Airbus 'logic', I use the Aerosoft A320 series which is excellent and has a fully functioning MCDU.

I realise this doesn't help you with your issues so I'll stop rambling on now!

Hiya

No worries about the ramble! 🙂

I also use the AS A320. A great workhorse

Do you think the BlackBox is worth getting then? I really just want an A330. I think its obvious Wilco's just copypasted the specs of its own A320 on to a heavier and worse airframe 😞

Would also really really appreciate some help on the current wilco issues though!!

Unfortunately I have to say that I would be reluctant to recommend it.

Whereas the AS A320 functions very smoothly and has an excellent FMS/MCDU giving a great flying experience, I cannot say the same about the Blackbox A330 in comparison. Although I still fly it every so often when I want to experience an A330, I usually get frustrated with it after a few flights and it is then consigned to the hangar again for a couple of months! This is a shame because, as I previously said, it has quite a few nice features and had great promise if only its shortfalls had been addressed.

This is my personal opinion, but if you search Avsim, you will find that a lot of users of the BB A330 feel the same although, to be fair, there are some who enjoy flying it.

I see. I have trialled it, but so far not exactly high hopes.

Is there any solution to my A330 craving?

🙂
