B58T, PA24, C152 Oz Tour Jan-Apr '26

Finally going to do a big flightseeing tour using all my airport addons that I've brought over the past year with a few more addons to add. Its something I've been wanting to do and have held off in the past for a few reasons but now those reasons are gone. Mainly lack of good ATC with local dialect, AI traffic etc.

So to start, some of the legs are a bit long for a small GA that has a slow cruise speed. For that reason, I will be switching between the Black Square Baron B58T P model and for shorter legs, my go to favorite, the PA24 Comanche from A2A. Both offer wear and tear, system rich and Air Manager gauges. Being both are low wing planes which arent the best for flight seeing, I will also be using the Asobo C152 high wing for low and slow local tours.

In addition, I will be using planes and AI pilots from OnAIr. It will be myself, two other pilots and a "local friend" as a tour guide using Say Intentions.  SI will also be providing my traffic and ATC.  The trip is over 8,000nm so I'm giving myself four months to complete the tour. Above is the general route I will be flying and I will working with the other two AI pilots to tell them where we will be going next and switching planes as needed as so I always get the best plane for the leg and we all "travel" as a group. I probably will also grab that camping gear stuff from 42 for those outback camping locations. I'll also explore using avatar mode getting screenshots along the way.

In addition to just enjoying the flights, I hope to learn about all the spots I visit or flight-see. In real life I've done long road trips around the USA with one of my bigger ones being a two month Southwest trip. Staying at National Parks and campgrounds allows to talk with others and get local advice on some of the off the beaten path places I had around me but would discover via locals.  I plan to use ChatGPT and Googles Gemini to minic those "locals" at each stop.

For myself, its wintertime in the New England area so with short cold days, this is when I use my simpit as summers are about being outdoors and on my boat. I have a great simpit and Hangar which also makes it enjoyable to use realistically. Lastly, my evenings are mornings in Oz so I will be flying real weather and real time. I asked ChatGPT to create some route info of things to see as a starting point. Now that MSFS is actual terrain, I'm looking forward to seeing how beautiful this part of the world really is.

On the Google Map, Blue waypoints are addons I have, Red I'll buy as I get close or when on sale and green are just locations without addons but pitstop locations to keep legs shorter between addon airports. I'll also stop at other airports along the way once on the east coast of Australia as I dont like to fly long legs often.

Below is my route with some info from ChatGPT as a starting flight seeing guide:

🌍 LEG-BY-LEG SIGHTSEEING NOTES

Southwest Western Australia

YPPH → YEJI → YPKG
Fly south along the Indian Ocean coastline—Rottnest Island, then dramatic limestone cliffs near Yallingup and vineyards of Margaret River. Inland legs show dense karri forests near Manjimup and Pemberton.

Esperance & the Nullarbor

YPKG → YMMI → YLTN → YWBR
Esperance’s coast is a standout—Lucky Bay’s blinding white sand and turquoise water. Crossing the Nullarbor Plain, hug the coast for views of the Great Australian Bight cliffs, some of the longest continuous sea cliffs in the world.

South Australia & Central Desert

YWBR → YAYE → YBAS → YCBP
Vast red desert transitions into the iconic Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Flying early morning or late afternoon gives maximum contrast and shadow definition.

MacDonnell Ranges & Barkly Tableland

YCBP → YARK → YPWR
Follow the West MacDonnell Ranges—deep gorges, dry riverbeds, and parallel ridgelines. Near Tennant Creek, detour over Karlukarlu / Devils Marbles.

Lake Gairdner

Aerial patterns of salt polygons and pastel blues—one of Australia’s most surreal aerial landscapes.

South Australia to Victoria

YPLC → YPAD → YPPF → YBDG → YMEN
Spencer Gulf, then Adelaide Hills wine regions. Follow the Murray River east—meandering oxbows make excellent low-level VFR reference points.

Bass Strait & Tasmania

YSHT → YHOT → YCBG
Tasmania offers wild terrain—Cradle Mountain, Central Plateau lakes, and untouched forest. Weather changes fast; flexibility is key.

Tasman Sea Crossing

YCBG → NZNV
Plan conservatively—this is a serious overwater leg. Reward is New Zealand’s South Island, arguably the best GA flying on Earth.

New Zealand South Island

NZNV → NZMF → NZWF → NZCH
Fly the spine of the Southern Alps—Milford Sound, glaciers, braided rivers. Keep a camera ready every minute.

North Island

NZCH → NZNS → NZWN → NZTG → NZAA
Cook Strait crossing reveals intricate coastlines. Central NI features Mt Ruapehu, volcanic lakes, and geothermal fields near Rotorua.

Return to Australia

NZAA → YSNF → YLHI
Lord Howe Island is a jewel—volcanic peaks rising from turquoise reef. Strict weather minimums apply.

Australian East Coast

YLHI → YSSY → YSCB → YMND → YCFS → YBNA
Follow the Pacific coastline—headlands, surf beaches, subtropical rainforests, and Byron Bay’s lighthouse.

Queensland Northbound

YSPT → YBBN → YBUD → YGLA → YEML
Fly over K’gari (Fraser Island)—sand dunes, perched lakes. Long beaches make great visual nav aids.

Outback to the Reef

YBRK → YBHM → YBCS
Terrain shifts from dry inland to lush tropics. Finish over the Great Barrier Reef—cays, reefs, and electric-blue water on descent into Cairns.
