August 15, 200718 yr Anyone aware of any military type simulators along the lines of those used in War Colleges? NOT shoot 'em up games!! But exercises in command/control/tactics/logistics- probably at the Air Wing level or higher. ( Or division/brigade or naval task group levels.) Possibly along the lines of a "run your own airline sim" but a bit more sophisticated & with a military context.Wouldn't it be nice to find a sim used to train new general officers! But that would be too much to hope for.I appreciate this is not the usual AVSIM topic but it's one that might have some broader interest than only for this 75 year old virtual pilot!Alex Reid CYYJ
August 15, 200718 yr This is listed as a game- but I guess it was designed by a former officer, and this quote is from the website:"The unique military feel of Decisive Action sets it apart from any previous commercial wargame. Decisive Action's ability to represent modern combat and the Army's planning process led to it having recently been selected by the US Army Command and General Staff College as a training tool for officers."http://www.hpssims.com/Pages/products/DA/d...ive_action.html
August 16, 200718 yr I did- but I was extremely confused :) It would probably require some military background or a fanatical obsession to really appreciate it.There is another one on the website that says it was actually designed for the military, and then a civilian version was made. It was on the front page- their website seems to be down right now. But it mentioned like 1000 different types of ammunition. Sounds like porno for armchair generals :)I always wanted to get into wargaming- but realized I'm too impatient, and with no background knowledge it's a little dauting. I'll stick to flight sim, racing, and shooters for now.
August 16, 200718 yr I would think Harpoon would meet your needs in terms naval tactics and strategy which of course relies much on air powerFor a start seehttp://advancedgaming.biz/index.php?cevent=page.view&id=2Best wishes, John Morgan
August 16, 200718 yr Thanks John- Harpoon looks quite intriguing. Wonder how well it works for single person play- doubt if I can sweet talk HER into it! She already shakes her head when I tell her FS is educational. Will look into it further.Cheers Alex Reid
