May 23May 23 I remember going to the movies a zillion years ago to see the computer animated Final Fantasy movie, that was supposed to usher in an era of ultra-realistic 3d animated entertainment only limited by the imagination. The uncanny valley reared its head however, and the off-putting stiffness of face and body showed in too many other attempts like Polar Express....Now we enter the early post CGI era and AI animation is getting more and more realistic, though loudly disdained my many; apparently mostly on philosophical principles.But..... when people in their homes can do this, I feel that the promise of the "video toaster" and the desktop video revolution that eventually led to Babylon 5 (I remember meeting Kiki Stockhammer) so long ago, is now actually within reach.....What will the tech nerds, many still in school now, do with this new creative tool in the coming years?
