TrackIR 5 need help please.

Featured Replies

So I've been using trackir 5 for years with no problems until now. I have the most up to date drivers 5.5.3 and I have uninstallrd/reintalled many times and ensured it goes through security settings but with no joy. Her is what is happening. When I click on the trackir icon I get the little blue rotating circle then nothing, (no opening grid screen) and nothing showing in the task bar, however, if if I go into task manager it is showing up there as running! I've been trying to resolve this for two days now and tried various workarounds from online but still no joy. I just cant fly in msfs2024 without it and am loosing the will to live. Has any of you folks out there experienced this issue, any help would be so appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Malcolm.

Here is what ChatGPT would do:

Most likely: TrackIR is launching but its UI/settings file is corrupted or the window is hidden/off-screen. NaturalPoint support specifically suggests deleting Settings.xml and ProfileMap.dat from the TrackIR AppData folder for this kind of issue, especially after display/profile changes.

Do this first:

  1. Close it fully

    • Open Task Manager

    • End every TrackIR5.exe / TrackIR process.

  2. Reset the TrackIR window/settings

    • Press Win + R

    • Paste this:

    %AppData%\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5
    • Before deleting anything, copy the Profiles folder somewhere safe.

    • Then delete or rename these two files if present:

    Settings.xml
    ProfileMap.dat
    • Start TrackIR again, preferably right-click → Run as administrator once.

Your profiles are normally stored here:

C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Profiles

NaturalPoint also lists that AppData location as one of the profile locations, so back that folder up before doing any bigger reinstall.

Also try this quick off-screen-window trick:

  • Start TrackIR.

  • Press Alt + Space

  • Press M

  • Press any arrow key

  • Move the mouse around — the hidden window may snap back onto the screen.

If that does not help, do the clean reinstall route:

  1. Unplug the TrackIR camera.

  2. Uninstall TrackIR.

  3. Uninstall NaturalPoint Drivers if listed.

  4. Delete/rename:

C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint
  1. Reboot.

  2. Install the latest TrackIR software from the official TrackIR downloads page. The current download page says it is for TrackIR 5-series hardware or newer and Windows 10 or newer.

  3. Plug the camera back in only after install.

I’d start with deleting/renaming Settings.xml and ProfileMap.dat. That is the least destructive and fits your symptom exactly: blue circle, process running, but no grid/UI.

Good morning.

I’ve been using Track IR 5 for DCS World for many years, and for MSFS 2024 ever since it was released. I’m using the latest of the older drivers, version 5.4.2. All the drivers in the 5.5 series have given me problems. I’d recommend reinstalling version 5.4.2 and giving it a go. On a separate note, sometimes the application opens minimised and it looks as though it isn’t running.

Best regards.

Thank you Gentlemen for your replies. Sorry I've not come back sooner but was taken off elsware to do stuff. In the end I tried all the things you suggested Micko but wthout a good result I'm afraid, so I did IIeviation's suggestion and rolled back to 5.4.2. and it seems to be working for now although not quite as smooth as 5.5.3. but lets be grateful for what we can get just now, better than not flying at all! Thanks again Gentlemen.

Best regards.
