While most of you are probably decades away from considering this it is an interesting new concept.

We had representative from a local funeral home come in and talk to us last week about what's available now especially in cremation services ranging from urns to scattering ashes to jewelry or having your ashes made into stones to toss into favorite places.

The most interesting thing to me was writing your own obituary. It can run from a few lines to several pages. One of the residents here said he had written a three page obituary for his grandfather and was working on his own.

What is a self-written obituary?

A self-written obituary is a unique, personal obituary written by an individual before their death. Unlike traditional obituaries, which are often composed by family or friends, a self-written obituary allows a person to tell their life story in their own words, capturing their personality, humor, and values in a genuine, memorable way. It can range from heartfelt and reflective to humorous or unconventional, offering loved ones a glimpse of how the person wanted to be remembered. This approach also relieves family members of the responsibility and ensures that one’s life story is told accurately and meaningfully.

I have written a three page draft of my own. As time goes on I might make some changes but as of now it is good to go.

A minor participant in the game of Life. No notable accolades or accomplishments worthy of Review. Several friends/acquaintances. Little accumulation of wealth or associated caveats. Did what was necessary to endure day to day. Appreciation for Nature.

I also have no service or memorial planned either Alan. I just wish to be cremated and have my ashes scattered where, my wife's and son's ashes are scattered.

But I have had many friends and acquaintances during my trek through life and I want to celebrate that life; what it was like and how it affected me and others. Sort of like a memoir for friends and kin. I have never told my grandkids or my great grandkids what life was like for me in any detail at all. What I did and how I related to others. Because the time of my life will be nothing like the time of their life. And they just might be interested. Wouldn't you be interested in your grandfather's life?

The one I wrote for myself is 3 pages long. And believe it or not flight simming and Hangar Chat are a part of it...a small part. At age 92 I won't have a lot to add. But it will become a family heirloom with a lot more detail than one written by a relative or friend who doesn't know you as well as you know yourself.

Genealogy is quite popular. Wouldn't some details of your life be of interest to someone in your who was into genealogy after you're gone?
