December 4, 200520 yr More specically, textures? I manage to get models into FS9 just fine, but textures maps aren't coming through. If anyone is using 3dsMax to model FS9 aircraft, would you kindly walk me through how you deal with texture mapping and exporting the same? What I'm most interested in is the file format you use in Max for textures, and how you get the same over to FS9 so that they actually appear looking as they do in Max.Thanks!--I'm pulling my hair out!!
December 4, 200520 yr Commercial Member I'll just ramble some thoughts here....it may help :) What image size are you using for your texture maps? The pixel width and height need to be evenly divisible by 8. So you may use dimensions of 8,16,32,64,128,256,512, and 1024. Your maps don
December 5, 200520 yr Moderator Frankly, I leave all my textures as layerd .psd files in Max and GMax. After exporting the .mdl file, I then flatten all the .psd files and save 'em to the new aircraft's texture folder as 24 bit .bmp files. Then, I load each 24 bit .bmp in DXTBMP and save 'em back as DTX3 compressed .bmp files (or, sometimes 888-1 or DXT1, depending on my needs). December 5, 200520 yr Thanks for the encouraging words and tips, Danny and Bill!As prediected, I finally had my "aha" moment last night (after a week of fruitless effort)--I tinkered with the settings in Max when I exported to an X file, and switched on the mapping coordinates setting. (I already had full materials switched on). Presto bingo--the texture maps appeared in FS9.Many thanks again for the tips and encouragement! Hope I can return the favor some day.
