Loading textures in FS9

Featured Replies

I'm having a problem with FS9 not loading photographic terrain textures, eventually, no textures are loaded. Is this a problem with FS9 or is it my set up?I created a flight with the autopilot set for 20000ft, 300kts on a heading of 180. The scenery was refreshed at the beginning of the flight. Below are a series of shots showing the progression of how the scenery was unloaded and loaded. The second last was when I refreshed after all tiles had disappeared and the last one shows that the total memory used was about 550Mb. I have 1Mb RAM.Can anyone shed any light on the problem?http://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/1.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/3.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/4.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/5.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/7.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/8.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/11.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/14.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/15.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/16.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/18.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/19.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/20.jpghttp://www.geo-davison.demon.co.uk/21.jpg

Hello George,It is hard to say what the problem is from your description. Could you please provide more information?For example, where do you have the scenery installed (that is, your directory structure)?Did this scenery work correctly before, and if so, have you changed anything since?Best regards.Luis

Hello Luis,It's difficult to say whether it worked before since I normally fly VFR at about 5000ft at 100kts and probably do not go out of the immediate area. This exercise was specifically to investigate a problem reported on another forum where the poster was having a similar problem even with the default scenery.The scenery is on a separate SCSI drive with a typical directory structure of:L:VFR SceneryscenedbJFVFR1VFGM_PhotoSceneryVol1_1textureL:VFR SceneryscenedbJFVFR1VFGM_PhotoSceneryVol1_2textureL:VFR SceneryscenedbJFVFR1VFGM_PhotoSceneryVol1_3textureL:VFR SceneryscenedbJFVFR2VFGM_PhotoScenery_Vol2_1texture...similarly for JVFR3 and 4.Each JFRn directory contains .bmp's for 1/4 of England and wales, each contained in 3 further subdirectories.The interesting thing from my screenshots is that FS releases the scenery when it is behind, but when it does (rarely) load scenery, it appears to load single tiles to the right of the track rather than in front.I can force a re-load at any time and it loads correctly, see my last shot, so FS knows where the scenery is.Best regards,Georgeps could you please replicate my flight and report on the outcome. I know you do not have the VFR textures, but it would confirm or refute my findings. I will do the same with the VFR scenery disabled.George

Hello Luis,Please disregard my request for you to replicate the flight. I have just done it with the default scenery and it maintains the following selection of tiles: |------|------|------| | | | | | | | | | | | ||------|------|------|----- |------|| | | | | || | | | | || | | | | ||------|------|------|----- |------|| | | | | || | | | | || | | | | ||------|------|------|----- |------| <----| | | | | || | | | | || | | | | ||------|------|------|----- |------| | | | | | | | | | | | | |------|------|------|When it gets to the point marked (note, we're travelling from top to bottom), it discards the top row and the corners of the next row and loads the next row.It must obviously be something to do with the VFR textures.Regards,George

I've finally solved the problem, it was something in the FS9.CFG. Having reset it and applied some basic tweaks, I can now fly at 300kts at 20,000ft from Scotland to the south coast of England.George
