December 21, 200520 yr I'm designing my own trees for my scenery in GMAX. One side appears darker due to the lighting engine in FS. I notice that the FS autogen trees are not darker on the 'shady' side. My trees look exactly like autogen on the 'sunny' side. So, is it possible to acheve this...can I make my model so that it is equally lit on all sides?Sorry for the wordy phrasing.Adam
December 21, 200520 yr Hi Adam.At Arno's site:http://www.scenerydesign.org/forum/showthr...t=trees+normalsThe key is the alteration of the normals of the object to all point up or down ( if I recall correctly ).Dick
December 21, 200520 yr Thanks a lot Dick. Very interesting reading there, however I got Arno's new tree library and things are great now. I'm glad I don't have to build my own trees!Cheers and Merry Christmas,Adam
December 22, 200520 yr Author Commercial Member For people who still want to do the trick, here is a little more information. Dick is right, you need to make sure that all polygons have their normals in the same direction. For my tree library I made them all point up.For my new MDL Tweaker II tool, this normals tweaking is on the feature list. So hopefully soon, you will be able to do this with a few mouseclicks, without touching the ASM files.
