AVSIM 2006 was ..well...fantastic

Geez guys....FSX will have an optional 1 meter per pixel resolution on terrain and similar improvements on mesh terrain...I had a chance to fly over Maui and the improvement was incredible. about 10x more autogen trees and a more powerful autogen library of structures besides. The water visuals are better by a mile. I can't wait.JustFlight had a demo of (to be released soon) of photoreal Portland Oregon which was very impressive on 3 screens.Only downside...GMAX will not be supported after FSX. There will be one more version for FSX (bglcomp?), then "we" have to move on to something else.It seems Microsoft is now much more open to customer interaction.I sure hope there will be an FSX Ground2k, or something as good.

And the fact that we now already know, also gives us a good chance to look at alternatives quietly.

Hi John. The resolution of photoreal can be a low a 7 centimeters per pixel, and it can be blended into the landclass by an alpha mask. It will be a few weeks before we get a grip on all the implications. The new resample tool is quite a good tool.Christian Fumey has expressed an interest in designing some scenery tools. Luis Sa has been busy with porting SBuilder to vb.net code, and will be including shapefile usage in the newer version ( if I understood his intention correctly ). Meanwhile, there may be some intermediate tools to translate output from these programs to the shapefile format, allowing users to access the Shp2Vec tool from the Aces team, and make water, shorelines, roads, etc...Shp2Vec works amazingly well. Again, we do need a few weeks to get a grip on the new format. But it does seem a good improvement over the older terrain system.Dick
